Let me get this straight. The majority leader brings to a vote a legislative proposal that your party openly supports. In fact, many of you that are seeking the office of the Presidency, (the highest office of the land), are touting this Green New Deal as a blueprint for our country should you be elected. Now you are accusing the majority of orchestrating a political stunt and you do not vote to support this. Maybe just maybe you guys are the ones that are pulling political stunts. In any case, why would anyone in their right mind waste their vote on any of you for ANY office?

How embarrassing is the green new deal?
So embarrassing that when Senate majority leader McConnell tried to force the Democratic party’s presidential contenders into an embarrassing vote over the berserk, MMT-inducing climate-change proposal (which Republicans are confident that even sober liberal will oppose), not a single Democrat voted for it. Instead, in the vote which was blocked late on Tuesday with a vote of 0-57, 43 Democrats voted merely "present", including the Senate’s half-dozen presidential candidates, to sidestep the GOP maneuver and, as Bloomberg put it, "buy time to build their campaign positions."
The vote was the first of many attempts by Republicans to force (socialist, MMT) supporters of the Green New Deal to come into the spotlight and suffer the public scrutiny. The proposal - mostly a collection of goals for mitigating climate change rather than a fully formed plan of action - which according to some would cost north of $100 trillion and would require the launch of helicopter money, also known as "MMT", has been a favorite target for criticism by McConnell and Republicans ever since freshman Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts rolled it out in February.
“I could not be more glad that the American people will have the opportunity to learn precisely where each one of their senators stand on this radical, top-down, socialist makeover of the entire U.S. economy,” McConnell said before the vote.
Alas, that opportunity was denied because instead of voicing their support for the most ludicrous proposal in socialist history, 43 Democrats decided to take the easy way out.
Even the six Democratic presidential contenders, including Cory Booker of New Jersey, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Kamala Harris of California, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, all voted present.
At this point, the candidates for the Democratic nomination generally haven’t spelled out specific proposals. Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey has called the Green New Deal “bold,” and Senator Kamala Harris of California has said it’s “an investment” worth the cost. Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota described it somewhat less enthusiastically, as an “aspiration” to act on climate change.
Fresh off what has been dubbed the best day in Trump's presidency, on Tuesday Trump, no longer the subject of Russia collusion conspiracy theories, met with Senate Republicans at the Capitol, and according to Lindsey Graham the president told them regarding the Green New Deal, “make sure you don’t kill it too much because I want to run against it” in 2020.
Well, so far so good. In an attempt to save face with progressives, Adam Green, a co-founder of the grassroots Progressive Change Campaign Committee, said McConnell was trying to force some “no” votes at a time when Democrats are still reviewing the plan. Voting “present” shows that Democrats aren’t going to hamper things with an early dissent, he said.
While the "present" votes were to be expected, what came as a surprise is that three Democrats voted with Republicans against the resolution including Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, and Doug Jones of Alabama, who faces a tough re-election campaign next year in a deep-red state. Independent Angus King of Maine, a member of the Democratic caucus, also voted against the measure.

The challenge for Democrats looking ahead to next year’s campaigns is to avoid having their support for a still-evolving climate proposal tarred by Republican efforts to portray it as an extremist agenda that would do away with hamburgers and airplane travel.

“It’s one thing to be on the campaign trail and say here is what I believe in and fill in the details,” said Democratic strategist Rodell Mollineau, who was a top aide to former Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid. “It’s another thing to go on record and let other people fill in the details for you.”
As Bloomberg notes, "the Green New Deal has more than 100 congressional Democrats as co-sponsors, including the six senators running for president. While Democrats are united on the need for significant action to stem climate change, they don’t agree on specific proposals." As a result, McConnell introduced his own version, drawing on the language of the Democratic measure.
Top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer tried to shield Democrats from having to expose splits between moderates and progressives on the issue. He dismissed the vote as “gotcha politics” intended by Republicans to distract from the fact that they don’t have their own plan to curb greenhouse gas emissions.

“Republicans want to force this political stunt to distract from the fact that they neither have a plan nor a sense of urgency to deal with the threat of climate change,” he said.

Following tonight's Senate vote, Democrats plan to introduce a resolution in the House this week that calls for the U.S. to remain part of the Paris Climate Accord and requires the Trump administration to create a plan to meet its emission reduction goal, according to a senior Democratic aide. As a reminder, in 2017 Trump announced that he intends to pull out of the Paris agreement, under which the U.S. pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 26 percent from 2005 levels by 2025.
While Senate Democrats weren’t under any real pressure from outside progressive groups to vote for the Green New Deal at this point, they will be in due course.
Meanwhile, capitalizing on the ultra-liberal faction within the Democratic Party, the GOP’s message focuses on the botched February rollout of the proposal, which included the release of documents from Ocasio-Cortez’s office promising economic security even for those “unwilling to work,” and suggesting the eventual elimination of air travel and “farting cows.”

As The Senate gears up to vote, as soon as today, on a motion to proceed on the Green New Deal - AOC's broad climate-change bill that has divided Democrats, and which Republicans hope to use as a wedge issue in 2020 - Ron Paul has a few choice words for this "ready-made excuse to expand government and curtail liberty."
As The Hill reports, Democrats are broadly expected to vote present on the legislation as a way of deflecting a political attack from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who scheduled the vote to put the minority in a difficult position.
They have sought to cast the scheduling of the vote as a political trick.

“This vote is a sham and little more than a political ploy to protect vulnerable Republicans from having to defend their climate science denial,” said Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.).

Even though he is the Senate sponsor of the Green New Deal legislation, he will vote present on the legislation.
Groups supporting the Green New Deal are essentially giving members a free pass to not vote in favor of the measure, but Democratic polling shows the Green New Deal has strong support from likely Democratic voters in early primary and caucus states.

The recently-proposed Green New Deal is proof that climate change is for progressive Democrats what terrorism is for neoconservative Republicans: a ready-made excuse to expand government and curtail liberty. This radical plan would authorize the US government to seize control of major sectors of the US economy, phase out gasoline-fueled cars, make buildings “energy efficient,” and even replace air travel with rail travel.
Supporters of the Green New Deal claim that the science regarding the risk of climate change is “settled.” However, the science is far from settled. Many of the claims regarding climate change have been debunked.
Some supporters of policies like the Green New Deal have actually supported criminalizing dissent from the so-called “settled” science of climate change. This reveals the authoritarianism of some people demanding Americans give up real liberty and prosperity because of phantom fears of impending environmental disaster.
Like all forms of socialism, the Green New Deal suffers from what Ludwig von Mises identified as the “calculation problem.” Knowledge of the most efficient use of resources is conveyed by prices set in a free market. Prices reflect individuals’ subjective preferences regarding the best use of resources. When government uses force to remove resources from the marketplace, it makes it impossible for the price system to function, leaving government officials and private citizens unable to determine the most efficient use of resources. That is why every attempt at government management of the economy inevitably reduces the people’s standard of living.
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has dismissed concerns regarding the almost 100 trillion dollars ten-year cost of implementing the Green New Deal by suggesting that Congress simply make the Federal Reserve pay for it by creating new money. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s claim is rooted in Modern Monetary Theory. This theory states that, when government controls the currency, it need not worry about running up large debt for welfare and war; it can have the central bank print more money to pay for more government.
Modern Monetary Theory is not modern. The Federal Reserve has facilitated the growth of government by printing money since its creation. It is no coincidence the birth of the Federal Reserve was immediately followed by the rise of the welfare-warfare state.
Whether done to monetize the federal debt or to jump-start economic growth, the Federal Reserve’s creation of new money harms the economy. In fact, Fed-induced distortions, caused by actions including money creation and interest rate manipulation, are the root cause of the boom-and-bust cycle that plagues the American economy. The Green New Deal would, in addition to its other negative impacts, hasten and deepen the inevitable Federal Reserve-caused economic crisis facing America. It would also increase the hidden and regressive inflation tax.
Ironically, the Green New Deal also would likely damage the environment. History shows that the most effective way to protect the environment is with a free-market economy that respects property rights. Therefore, those concerned with protecting the environment should support the free market, along with a legal system that holds private property owners accountable when their actions damage the environment or harm other individuals or their property.

(Natural News) In what obviously came as a shock to many, the Senate recently voted on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (AOC) so-called “Green New Deal,” and wouldn’t you know it – not a single member of Congress, including Democrats, voted in favor of it.
With a final vote of 0-57, with all 43 Democrats simply voting “present,” the cow fart-banning, fossil fuel-eradicating, economy-destroying socialist mess was finally put to rest – much to the chagrin of AOC, who almost immediately chastised all of her colleagues for not supporting her pipe dream legislation.
The non-binding resolution quite obviously failed to reach the 60 votes that would have been necessary for actual debates to begin, revealing the utter ridiculousness of the proposal right out of the gate. It’s also now obvious that AOC and her ideas exist on the absolute fringe, garnering total bipartisan opposition.
Even avowed socialist Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who technically identifies as an “independent,” voted “present” on the Green New Deal, suggesting that he, too, thinks it’s just plain crazy and will never work.
“The vote had been teed up by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., in a bid to make Democratic senators – including several 2020 presidential candidates – go on the record about the measure,” Fox News reported.
“McConnell had called the proposal ‘a radical, top-down, socialist makeover of the entire U.S. economy.'”

Even Democrat Senator Ed Markey, who co-authored the Green New Deal, didn’t vote in favor of it

Hilariously, even AOC’s partner in crime, Democrat Senator and Green New Deal co-author Ed Markey, reportedly gave a “present” vote rather than support his own bill, leaving AOC all alone in her quest to stop the world from allegedly ending in 12 years due to cow farts.
“The American people will see,” McConnell stated confidently before he put the Green New Deal up for a vote. “They’ll see which senators are so fully committed to radical left-wing ideology that they can’t even vote ‘no’ on self-inflicted economic ruin that would take a sledgehammer to America’s middle class.”
Even more hilarious was AOC’s post-vote claim that she somehow “encouraged” her colleagues to vote “present” rather than in favor of the Green New Deal – offering no explanation as to why she would do this – only to proceed into a typical rant about climate change.
“McConnell tried to rush the #GreenNewDeal straight to the floor without a hearing,” AOC whined on Twitter. “The real question we should be asking: Why does the Senate GOP refuse to hold any major hearings on climate change?”
And leave it to Leftist Democrats still in favor of the Green New Deal to double down on their support for it, even going so far as to claim that it’s still very popular and that people just love it.
Sean McElwee, writing for the failing New York Times, actually published an article entitled, “People Actually Like the Green New Deal,” that tries to whitewash the rejection of the Green New Deal by both aisles of Congress, insisting that the plan somehow has bipartisan support.
“McElwee’s finding is that people love greenie-weenie schemes if you emphasize the benefits and promise that the costs will be minimal and paid for by someone else,” writes Kevin D. Williamson for National Review. “One wonders whether McElwee ever has met a conservative.”
