Schwarzenegger proposes 5% cut in state worker salaries [Updated]

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has proposed a 5% cut in 200,000 state workers’ salaries.

Combined with existing mandatory furloughs, that would mean about a 15% pay cut for those workers. The proposal would affect appointees and civil servants in agencies run by the governor but not employees of other elected officials, such as the attorney general or controller.

I guess a 5% cut in pay is better than having no job at all. I guess the time has come to pay the piper. Living beyond a persons means normally catches up to them. I guess the same result can be expected from a government living beyond its means. A state supporting 3 million illegal aliens can't expect to do so without some negative results.

Soon the federal government will be broke too, mostly because of Obama and Bush.

5% is very low. My brother-in-law in Nevada was forced to take a 20% paycut, but then he's not employed by the government.

I agree and think the 5% cut is very reasonable when considering the other alternatives.
