And what about their Jewish and Seventh Day Adventist employees whose church day is Saturday??!! Sounds very discriminatory to me.

No, gay folks did not win equal rights with Chick-fil-A. They didn't win or lose anything because all customers and employees have always been treated equally. Ending donations to groups opposed to homosexual marriage doesn't necessarily mean someone lost or won ...... it just means you decided to step away from the controversy created from the donations. The business did not change its Christian values or how it treats all people it comes into contact with (customers, vendors and employees).

As for not being opened on Sunday for business. Well, I think your comments regarding the subject is ridiculous and pure hyperbole. Nobody is left "hungry and wanting." However, all Chick-fil-A employers are able to go to church, watch football and generally just spend time with their family on Sunday. As for the others you spoke of, how do you know Chick-fil-A doesn't provide them the day off on their day of worship? You're making a huge assumption in that statement. For the record, I've never seen a publicized complaint from any employee that works at Chick-fil-A.

Over the years I've heard you say on several occasions that you were a Christian (Southern Baptist), yet your positions on Christianity are frequently like your positions on Republicanism ...... opposite what you claim. Just calling it the way I see it.

And I think your comments are stupid.

The Chick Fil A controversy was about LGBT bullying, a frequent happening in recent years. They objected to the Cathey family (Chick Fil A) support for traditional marriage. Christians and Christian businesses are increasingly called out, sued, and at times lose their businesses when they refuse to bow to this bullying.

MW outlined some reasons why Chick Fil A has been blessed with customers and respect from millions. They honor God, the Sabbath, individuals, families, work, rest. They serve food that customers enjoy. Chick Fil A employees and customers are treated well. They are active in the community. If you work at Chick Fil A or are a parent of a young person who works there, you can in general take pride in being a part of that organization.

"THE CORPORATION"! Was there evidence that the corporation discriminated against gay customers or employees? It was a publicity stunt by LGBT to get more rights than everybody else. I'd like all corporations barred from donating to political parties or publicizing a position on just about anything. But the LGBT is only about restrictions on those they perceive as not supporting their cause.

Like what? You mean they couldn't get food from Chick-Fil-A until they tried to put the company out of business? You favor LGBT forcing bakers to cater gay weddings rather than opening up their own catering business specializing in gay weddings? THAT'S "MORE RIGHTS"! I don't have a Chick-Fil-A anywhere near me. They should be forced to build one in my town so I can try them out without driving 100 miles. When I Googled them, it showed a Taco Bell near me. Taco Bell sells Chick-Fil-A food?

Yeah! If we honored everybody's religion, we could have every day off. And why just Christmas and Easter? Think of all the holidays we could take off. We could have more time off work the Europe!

A lot of states used to have blue laws that prevented most stores and business establishments from being open on Sundays. I don't know if any states still have them or not. Might be a few still have them in some form.

Don't really understand what your comment has to do with this conversation, but okay. It's not "blue laws" that keep Chick-fil-A closed on Sunday.

There are certain companies that tend to outperform their competition year over year. They sell similar products or services, are in similar geographies, or they have similar online storefronts--but for some reason or another, they just keep crushing the competition.


Chick-fil-A is one of these companies. In 2016, its average sales per restaurant were $4.4 million. For comparison, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) was at $1.1 million. Chick-fil-A produced four times more sales per restaurant, and did it while being open six days per week instead of seven.
Sounds crazy, because it is.



Why is Chick-fil-A closed on Sundays?


Chick-fil-A has been closed on Sundays since 1946, a practice established by its founder Truett Cathy to allow employees a day of rest and worship. Even after his passing, his son Dan Cathy continues the practice. The corporate message on the topic says, "It's not about being closed. It's about how we use the time."
Here's the best part about Chick-fil-A, (beyond its No. 1 combo meal): The company lives out its beliefs and core values. This past Sunday, Chick-fil-A opened to dish out sandwiches to passengers stranded at Hartsville-Jackson International Airport in its hometown of Atlanta.
A major power outage halted and canceled flights for tens of thousands of passengers. Atlanta's Mayor Kasim Reed called the sandwich chain, and Dan Cathy and his team didn't even hesitate. Chick-fil-A released a statement: "We immediately mobilized staff and team members who live and work near the airport, and they are making sandwiches and delivering them to the EOC (emergency operations center)."



Chick-fil-A ended up distributing over 2,000 sandwiches and bottled waters to help in aid--yes, even on a Sunday.

Whether you love Chick-fil-A or hate them, here are a few crucial lessons you can learn from the company's example:


It starts at the top.


I talked to Jimmy Collins, a former Chick-fil-A president and the company's third corporate employee, on a recent episode of the Follow My Lead podcast. "Why don't others just copy Chick-fil-A? I asked. He said, "They can't. It starts with the founder or the person at the top. For us, it was Truett Cathy and now his son Dan."


Long-lasting differentiation starts and ends with the people at the top. Sure, anyone can come up with some innovative software platform or technology. But in today's fast-paced business world, technology is easily copied and quickly becomes a commodity.


Great leadership will always be a differentiator.



Don't cave to modern-day pressures, but be flexible.



It would be so easy for Chick-fil-A to cave to the pressures of today's environment and open all its restaurants on Sundays to increase corporate earnings. Instead, the company stays true to its core values and beliefs.

At the same time, its leaders know they don't exist just to make money. It's about people. So when an event happens like it did at the Atlanta airport, it's an easy decision to break a rule to help others.


Stick to your core values, and at the same time, be flexible. It's not a contradiction.


Customer experience matters.



So often, businesses forget the importance of the customer experience. Benjamin Franklin once famously said, "The taste of the roast is affected by the handshake of the host."

No matter your industry, the principle remains. Focus on your customer's experience from start to finish and they will keep coming back. Some of the best examples of this today are Facebook, Southwest Airlines, and Starbucks.


Of course, these companies don't have a patent on customer experience. Every organization has the ability to focus on customer experience. Some take it more seriously than others.

Be one of those companies. It matters.

So what are you advocating? All stores in all states be open seven days a week? Or that all stores in all states observe all religious traditions?

I took her comment to mean all Chick-fil-A businesses should be opened 7 days a week, regardless of what the owner wants. It's like the business shouldn't have the right to decide its own business hours! Hmm, I'm going to insist my barber stay opened on the weekends because I'm too busy during the week and too lazy to find another barber. Damn my barber, I need a haircut on Sunday!
