California tourism predicted to jump 3% this year
California tourism predicted to jump 3% this year
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — There's some good news for California's battered economy: The Golden State could see more tourists this year.
The state's Travel and Tourism Commission predicts the number of visitors will rise by nearly 3% this year and they'll spend about $92 billion on food, lodging and other expenses. That would be a 5% increase over 2009.
Commission head Caroline Beteta says there's greater consumer confidence in the economy and a pent-up demand to travel.
More foreign visitors are expected, including from Australia, China and South Korea.
The commission estimates released last week at a news conference in Santa Monica are based on a Pennsylvania company's analysis of national economic data, unemployment rates and other factors.
