CBP Intercepts Go-Fast Boat, Seizes 750 Pounds of Cocaine
(Friday, April 10, 2009)
Corpus Christi, Texas — Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine agents and detection enforcement officers Monday intercepted a boat carrying more than 750 pounds of cocaine in the waters of the western Caribbean Ocean.
A CBP surveillance aircraft was conducting flight operations in the region when the crew detected a boat with a small radar signature traveling at a high rate of speed in open waters. The crew vectored a Dutch naval vessel in to inspect the boat. The Dutch naval vessel dispatched a helicopter and sent a crew aboard. The crew discovered the illegal narcotics.
After spending more than six hours monitoring the situation, the P-3 crew was relieved by another Air and Marine aircraft from Puerto Rico.
