States Can Stop The War On Guns
ALERT: The war on our guns is raging; NOT just federal gun control but, our States are under attack by the anti-gun zealots as well. Colorado is following in the footsteps of CA, NY, and Chicago toward the strictest gun control laws in the country. Missouri and Minnesota have proposed legislation that would give citizens 90 days to turn in banned assault weapons or they could be charged with a felony.
The latest strategy of the anti-gun zealots is to TAX GUN OWNERSHIP!
There are new laws being pushed by multiple states that would tax gun purchases up to 25% on top of your state's existing sales tax. We must let our State Governors know we do not support any of this proposed anti-gun legislation. Tell them to pass a state law that nullifies all new federal gun control laws.
The Utah State House of Representatives voted to nullify all new federal gun laws, rule, regulations and orders on firearms, firearm accessories and ammunition:
HB 114: An officer or employee of the federal government may not enforce or attempt to enforce any federal statute, order, rule, or regulation relating to the intrastate ownership, possession, sale, or transfer of a personal firearm, a firearm accessory, ammunition, or ammunition component.
The Bill is expected to pass the Utah State Senate. If it passes there, it will just need to be signed by the State Governor and it will be Utah Law.
Rather than states following other states into more gun control laws, why don't we demand our state's follow states like Utah and pass legislation that will nullify all new federal gun control?
Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, California and Washington State have all presented legislation that would require an additional tax on gun and ammunition purchases ranging from 10-25% of the purchase price.
Gun and ammo manufacturers have to pay a federal tax that is covered by an adjusted purchase price for consumers. On top of the federal tax and state sales tax, these 10-25% additional taxes would make many firearms too expensive for consumers. The tax could add hundreds of dollars on top of already expensive gun purchases. And who is to say they will stop there and not create additional taxes on guns that you already own just like a property tax.
Supporters and authors of these additional tax bills say they are to compensate for gun buy-backs, firearms safety campaigns, and anti-violence programs. They compare them to the steep taxes placed on tobacco products. They used that tax money to demonize the tobacco industry and bully it almost completely out of the U.S. It is hard to find a place where it is legal to smoke a cigarette in public. That is just what they are trying to do to the gun industry. Demonize it; strangle it until it is only looked upon as something negative:
"Anything that contributes to balancing out the costs that gun violence exacts on communities is a step in the right direction," said Kristen Rand, legislative director of the Violence Policy Center. "Like cigarettes, guns should be taxed in a manner that takes into account the harm they inflict on society at large."
Gun laws are already in place; when properly enforced they work. Just look at how well they worked for former Congresswoman Gabby Gifford's husband, Mark Kelly. He recently purchased a 1911 .45 along with an AR-15 at his local gun store legally. Because Kelly has his own gun control group he quickly came under scrutiny for his purchases.
In response Kelly said:
"I just had a background check a few days ago when I went to my local gun store to buy a .45... I noticed a used AR-15. Bought that too. Even to buy an assault weapon, the background check only takes a matter of minutes. I don't have possession of it yet but I'll be turning it over to the Tucson PD when I do."
Kelly is absolutely right; it only took a matter of minutes to be approved to buy an AR-15. He is not a criminal if he was his application would have failed to be approved. Any law-abiding citizen can go to a gun shop to buy a legal firearm, pass the background check, and take the gun home when authorized. Kelly is showing us that the system is working; if he were a criminal he would have been red flagged and not allowed to purchase these firearms. But Mr. Kelly do not turn in your AR-15 to the police department; use it to protect your family.
Mark Kelly, leader of his own gun control group, is showing us that we do not need more gun control laws. The system is not broken. All laws in place simply need to be enforced. Mr. Kelly is not a criminal so he went through the legal process and bought a legal firearm. If he were a criminal, he would not have been able to purchase a firearm and would have been subject to punishment.
We need to remember that when our Government was formed and our Constitution was written it was designed to give the states, not the Government, the power to decide for themselves. In a time where Government is growing exponentially, it is important to remember that our state can control its own destiny and does not have to follow in the footsteps of big brother.
Since the re-election of Obama, there has been constant pressure and threats toward our Second Amendment. The only way to counteract these threats is for Law Abiding gun owners to stand up against them. We must let our State Governors know we do not support this proposed anti-gun legislation. We voted them in office, they work for us, and they need to protect the rights of our United States' law-abiding citizens.
