Wayne County has nation's No. 2 largest population decline, according to new census data

• Abandoned homes in Detroit are being torn down at a faster rate due to a Federal grant for demolition.

The U.S. Census Bureau released its 2016 population estimates today. According to the report, Wayne County had the second-highest population loss in the county, with a loss of 7,696. (Illinois' Cook County, home of Chicago, had a loss of 21,324.)

It wasn't all doom and gloom in Michigan, however. Washtenaw County grew by 3,862 residents. Oakland County added 3,696. Macomb County grew by 3,223.

But the biggest gain came in Kent County, home of Grand Rapids, which added 6,078 people.
