Chicago was once considered an advanced city, notable in their infrastructure, believe Superman, Batmen etc were filmed there due to the Gotham City tall building architecture etc. Philadelphia is and always will be the founding of America city as mostly all the founding fathers lived and worked here; but considered blue collar overall. Chicago used to be known for jazz greats.
To reiterate prior posts, America has changed drastically, one would have to visit an area to see first hand the change/updates.

I have no family left here in Chicago, so there is really nothing keeping me here. I want to leave here really bad. I always wanted to live in NYC. I have never been there, but I imagine it's awesome. Like you said though, I have to take a drive there one weekend and check it out. I would have to stay in a motel, while I check out the job and apartment situation.
Oh, and yes, Chicago was a great city when I grew up here. But things have changed drastically in the last couple decades.

Also, Chicago has the largest illegal alien population outside of the southwest. The standard of living has plummeted here since they started arriving here in large numbers.

They close because there's too many of them. We need less population and more production. We need more factories paying $20 to $40 an hour with benefits and less retail stores paying $8 an hour with no benefits.
The US economy is based on production not population. The sooner people realize that fundamental basic fact, the sooner they'll realize that it takes incomes not drive-thru burgers and $5 t-shirts to sustain our standard of living.
Production. Not Population.
Economic growth is measured by GDP. GDP = Gross Domestic Product. Domestic Product = Production, not Population.
Economic benefits are workers able to purchase and pay off a home in 15 to 20 years while still having a family.
Economic benefits are workers able to purchase their own health insurance or secure it through their employer.
Economic benefits are workers able to save for retirement, take vacations, buy cars, redecorate their homes every few years.
Economic benefits are workers able to purchase clothing with their paychecks instead of on credit cards.
Economic benefits are citizens able to sustain themselves through our economy and take care of their families on their own.
A nation that has 75 million people on Medicaid and 45 million on food stamps has way too much population. That's just a basic economic fact. Immigration is the sole cause of this distortion. But for these outrageous immigration polices that allow 30 million illegal aliens to remain while importing over 1.3 million new immigrants a year means we're about 50 million people over our limit of sustainability.
Immigration is responsible for all of that. And when your population is being distorted by gypsies, whiners, socialists and criminals, you're a nation dying by its own hand of grand stupidity.Last edited by Judy; 05-28-2017 at 03:18 AM.

NYC is incredibly expensive, swarming with people/always looks like rush hour, filled with foreigners. You can go online to craigslist to get an idea of prices for a place to live. Overall you get a closet size apartment for a whole bunch of money. Another overall is everyone is rude.
Only the rich can enjoy NYC. The upper east side is very nice, your neighbor might be Christopher Walkens drinking white wine & smoking cigarettes on his balcony. Guess it is the most expensive major city to live in. Very fast town. That also applies to scammers, con artists.
It is no picnic, the waters are rising and a few years ago the lower end of Manhattan was submerged in water. The residents had no trash pickup for weeks - you can only imagine with the density of population what that was like.
Every kind of business is there and top notch in the arts. Many like Brooklyn instead, not every area is nice so would have to check it out - much more affordable & subway into town. Don't even think @ Bronx or Queens.Last edited by artist; 05-28-2017 at 07:16 PM.

Sure they do, that goes for every city and town across America - illegals help drug cartels distribute, they are their cover.
Illegals do the sardine routine but they cannot get away with that in nice areas. They subway to outer areas; there are many "bad" neighborhoods to choose from; they have their numbers to protect them. Believe me, NYC living is so expensive they are not living there. 5 boroughs with public underground transport to every one. Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island City.

I definitely can't afford Manhattan, and the Brooklyn area is probably too expensive and overcrowded as well. I was thinking of looking into something about within an hour drive to Manhatten, like either on Long Island or maybe even New Jersey. That way I can be near NYC and all the benefits it has, like good jobs, great nightlife, museums, etc., but not actually living right in all the hustle and bustle.

A lot of people have the same idea. Crossing the water to NJ only helps a little bit. Hoboken is a nice town but not cheap to live there. Long Island used to be nice but surely you have read of the ms-13 gang members by the thousands there now thanks to obama. Not all of Long Island but once again a lot of people want to be in NY - the wages are higher than elsewhere, the arts are there, Wall st, fashion businesses, etc.
Some people choose the Connecticut route via commuter train or along the Hudson River, north of NYC, is very nice but the closer to NYC, the more expensive. NY state overall is very expensive and NJ has the highest property taxes in the nation.
A lot of areas in NJ close to NYC are age old industrial pollution dumps from industries w/o enough regulations. NJ has many sites that need to be cleaned up. The taxpayers get stuck with the bill - if gov christie decides to actually use the money allotted for that and not use it for something else. Some people like Easton Pa with NYC @ an hour away but you are in fracking land, once pristine forests, waters in PA and pretty much rural all about.
Count on paying at least $60 to park you car while you take in a play. And every bridge, tunnel is jammed day and night.
