Tea Party members must start offering solutions

    USA TODAY'S Reader's Opinions

Tea Party members must start offering solutions
    Harvey R. Greenberg - Dundee, N.Y.

Whether the Tea Party movement hits or misses the mark depends on answers to questions such as these ("Tea Party activists take aim, but many miss target," Our view, Political rebellion debate, Friday):

    1. Will Tea Party seniors support reductions in Social Security and Medicare benefits and increases to the retirement age?

    2. Will Tea Party farmers support elimination of farm and ethanol subsidies?

    3. Will Tea Party members from Long Beach, Calif., support canceling the C-17 aircraft program?

    4. Will Tea Party members from the Space Coast and Houston support cutbacks to the manned space program?

If the answer is yes, then the movement serves a purpose. Otherwise, it does not.

Let the Tea Party prepare its own recommendations for a budget. As easy as its members make it sound, a weekend should have been more than enough time.

    Misled, misinformed
Joseph Paretti - Fort Myers, Fla.

I want to commend USA TODAY's editorial on the Tea Party movement.

Along with many others, I am concerned about the tone of political discourse in this country. Your editorial clearly pointed out how misled so many of these individuals are, and how the very things that they are protesting are actually aimed at benefiting them.

Historically, it has always been easy to incite scared and ignorant people to action for political gain. I wish that more articles would draw attention to this danger instead of just reporting the events.

    A new political force
    Asbury Gibbes - Columbia, S.C.

USA TODAY's editorial about the Tea Party convention suggests a bias against conservatives and their agenda. The editorial leaves a reader thinking there is more division than unity at the convention, when the opposite is true.

The Tea Party grassroots movement will be the most powerful new force in American politics, for it has finally given conservatives a unified public voice. It will be the salvation of the Republican Party in November. Then USA TODAY can eat its words.

The Tea Party Movement isn't about solutions. It's about dissent. It's not about partisan politics or this special interest vs. another special interest. It's not a platform of tedium. It's a raging voice against traitors who have sold out and bankrupted our country and we're going to throw you all out of office in 2010, 2012 and 2014, once and for all. What we the people decide to do with NASA or a Space Project, or an Air Force Defense Contract or an alternative energy subsidy will be decided in due course after we throw all these bums out our government.

And the FIRST THING we're going to do is Pass the FairTax and use it to help get these illegal aliens out of our country and restore protected fair trade policies that bring all our jobs back home where they belong with American Workers.

Then, we'll work our way down to your silly list of ignorant tedium, Harvey.
