Bush signs bill to raise debt ceiling

WASHINGTON (AP) - With no fanfare, President Bush signed a bill Monday pushing the ceiling on the national debt to nearly $9 trillion.
The measure allows the government to borrow an additional $781 billion and prevent a first-ever default on Treasury notes. It also lets the government pay for the war in Iraq without raising taxes or cutting popular domestic programs.

The debt limit increase was the fourth of Bush's presidency, totaling $3 trillion. With the budget deficit near record levels, an additional increase in the debt limit almost certainly will be required next year.

The measure allows the debt limit to rise from $8.184 trillion to $8.965 trillion.

This is insane. Sooner or later we are going to have to pay for this incompetence. Either our taxes are going to get raised (which we pay enough as it is) or spending is going to have to get drastically cut. What's going to happen when one day these foreign countries say we will no longer incur your debt and you need to pay tomorrow? Do you think taxpayers are going to kindly fork over 30 grand each? Yeah that will go over like a led ballon. This economy is living on borrowed time. It can't sustain these massive debts for much longer. These crooks on Crapital Hill need to be reigned in. Somebody needs to remind these jacka--es exactly who's money it is they are spending and our money doesn't exactly grow on trees. We all know that Jorge Bush wouldn't know fiscal restraint if it bit him in his arse and apparently neither does Congress.

How can the Republicans preach fiscal restraint and balanced budgets when they pull a stunt like this? They are more interested in bowing down to the lobbyists then they are serving the American people. These do nothings are so finished in 06. They will never get another mandate again or win another serious election for a long/long time and that's what they get for bowing down to that snake in the grass and listening to that idiot even though his approval ratings are in the toilet. If you pieces of garbage want to go down with that sinking ship Jorge, fine, but don't expect us to bail you out in November.
