    Citizens respond to Durbin's refusal to hold town hall mtg

    Short youtube at link below. A great idea. If your representative won't have a meeting go protest at his office and post the youtube. My rep. Mark Kirk (one of the cap and trade is not having any meetings either. Another Illinois rep. is charging $25 for her meeting, breakfast included. Here is the Malkin link;

    Citizens respond to Durbin's refusal to hold town hall meeting

    by Jarad Perry, Illinois Policy Institute

    A crowd of about 115 Illinoisans gathered at the Springfield district office of Illinois Senator Dick Durbin (D). Senator Durbin has stated he will not be holding any health care town hallsduring the August recess. Some local residents decided to come together and let Durbin know what they thought of his aloofness.

    As you'll see in the video, protesters gathered and peacefully voiced concerns about the health care bill moving through Congress. They sang patriotic songs and held homemade signs.

    Halvorson's office site of anti-Obamacare protest

    Concerned citizens of IL's 11th CD flooded Debbie Halvorson's Joliet district office Thursday, demanding a meeting to discuss government healthcare. Thus far, the constituents have e-mailed, stopped by her office, signed petitions and even made a DVD with video messages asking to talk with her," attendee Debbie Kraulidis said. "Still no response. Today 160 citizens show up asking again 'Where is Debbie?'"

    It is sad that it had to come to protesting our own Congresswoman for our voices to be heard. As expected, there were out of district protesters bused in with professional, pre-printed signs," JolietTaxDayTeaParty.com reports. "Many of them could not even tell us what district they were in. Gladly there was a peaceful demonstration by both sides. There were approximately 160 concerned citizens from the 11th district looking for their Congresswoman to discuss our opposition to government healthcare."

    The blog says Health Care Now showed up with approximately 70 people (most out of district) to show their support for government healthcare. Once again Mrs. Halvorson refused to meet with her constituents about their concerns.

    Durbin, Foster, Costello, Shimkus duck town halls

    Durbin Some member of the Illinois congressional delegation are working overtime to duck town hall meetings on health care reform. According to The Chronicle, liberal Sen. Dick Durbin is refusing to hold a single public forum on the subject. His excuse? Durbin said: "I won't be doing sucker-punch town hall meetings. They can do all the political theater they want, but I don't have to supply the stage for them."

    The socially challenged Rep. Bill Foster, hasn't held a single town hall meeting either. Instead, his staff arranges three-minute audiences with "His Highness" during which constituents can bring their issues before Congressman Bill. They call it "Congress on Your Corner" (more like Constituents on Their Knees).

    In southwestern Illinois, Democrat Rep. Jerry Costello has also decided not to listen to the people. But he's not alone. Republican Rep. John Shimkus has also opted not to host any town hall meetings; preferring to hear from constituents by appointment or in small groups. Shimkus "opposes" Obama's government health care scheme. Unfortunately, his opposition has nothing to do with issues of life, death and freedom. Instead, he objects to the plans "absence of market-based solution, including tax breaks, to soaring health-care costs". Not exactly a thunderous "no".

    What a bunch of cowards. Durbin is right behind Pelosi and Reid as the most despicable of representatives.

    I bet Luis Gutierrez is having town halls. Too bad most people are likely too afraid to attend.

    Ummmm, yes he does. Since when does an elected official have the right to refuse to meet constituents in groups? "Groups" aka the majority are who elect these people and by God, that's who they are sworn to represent as well as listen to the minority.

    Just like the judicial system says the accused has the right to face their accuser, the people have a right to question their gov't representative in person. It's their civic duty to hold public forums.

    Dirty Dicky has no problem holding news conferences with his illegal dreamies at his side, but will not meet with American citizens?

    Please, Illinoisans, get rid of this "representative of the People."
