Justin Mensuphu-Bey, 23 — who also went by Justin Bey, according to court records — was fatally shot in the 1100 block of Washington Boulevard in Pigtown Friday night, police said.

The last time the city had 40 homicides in a month was August 1990, when the city had 42 and its population was significantly larger. So far, 2015 has seen 113 homicides.

Police also identified a previously announced homicide victim, who was shot in the 4000 block of West Belvedere Ave. on Friday night. He was Eladio Bennett, also 23.

The 100th shooting of the month also happened early Saturday morning. A woman was found shot in the leg in the 2900 block of West Lanvale St. in the Franklintown Road neighborhood of southwest Baltimore, police said.

A series of other attacks followed throughout the day.

The 101st was reported around 6:45 a.m. in the 1700 block of E. 30th St. in the Coldstream-Homestead-Montebello neighborhood. Police said a 16-year-old girl had a graze wound to her back.

Two shooting victims walked into area hospitals shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday, police said. The incident occurred in the 1200 block of W. North Ave. in the Penn-North area. The victims, one with a wound to the leg and the other to the buttocks, are expected to survive.

Then, police reported that detectives were called at 4:49 p.m. to investigate another incident. An adult man had been shot in the back near the intersection of Windsor Mill Road and Forest Park Ave. in the southwestern part of the city, police said. He is also expected to survive.

On Friday evening, a Baltimore Police marine unit found a woman's body in the water under the Interstate 395 overpass.

The manner of death was not yet determined Friday evening, but homicide detectives were called to the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call 410-396-2100.

Homicide Count for May in Baltimore Rises to 43

    BALTIMORE — May 31, 2015, 7:00 PM ET

Three fatal shootings in Baltimore on Sunday bring May's homicide count to 43, making it the most violent month in more than 40 years.

Police say two men were fatally shot in the head about 1 a.m. About 11 a.m., a man was fatally shot in the back.

With 43 homicides, May is the deadliest month since the early 1970s, when 44 people were killed in December 1971 and 45 people in August 1972, according to the Baltimore Sun.

There have been 116 homicides in Baltimore in 2015.
By this time last year, homicides hadn't hit triple digits. As homicides rose in May, the number of arrests plummeted. Some attribute the drop to increased scrutiny of police following the April death of Freddie Gray from injuries received in police custody.
