How the food industry is deceiving you - Part 1
The food industry and government policies
making Americans fat
The story of American agriculture is one of "unintended consequences."
The food industry and agricultural subsidies have led us down a path of obesity. There is a complete disconnect between agricultural policies and health policies.
This report from Peter Jennings is just as true today--perhaps more so--than when it was produced in 2003.
This is part 1 of 5.

By this time, Real Food Channel subscribers
have seen plenty of evidence of deception
by the food industry.
Few sources, however, had the journalistic
integrity of Canadian-American broadcast
journalist Peter Jennings.
This is the first of five parts that make up
Jennings' 2003 program about the deceptions
of the food industry.
We begin with a look at the disconnect
between US agricultural policies and health
policies.

How the food industry is deceiving you - Part 2
How US government subsidies affect what we eat
US government subsidies make processed, unhealthy foods much less expensive than healthy whole foods.
In part 2 of this program, Peter Jennings explores how agricultural subsidies have a direct connection to obesity. The food is cheap to produce and can be sold at high prices because of branding.
Politics, not what is best for the health of the US or the world, is behind the decisions that affect the food supply. That's not really a surprise to anyone who has paid attention.
But how many people are paying attention?

How the food industry is deceiving you, parts 4 & 5
In the final two parts of this series,
Peter Jennings looks at how food is
marketed to children, and how the
manipulation of young minds may
be behind the epidemic of obesity
and diabetes in children in the US.
Here is how the food industry goes
about creating an image of food,
especially to sell to children.
