SENATORS PUSHING FOR ONLINE SALES TAX NEXT YEAR
SENATORS PUSHING FOR ONLINE SALES TAX NEXT YEAR
by BREITBART NEWS 25 Dec 2012, 7:13
Congress may not want to dump an online sales tax on Americans in the wake of Christmas, but they’re preparing to do so next year. According to Christina Mulka, spokeswoman for Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), no bill will be brought up this year – but during the next session of Congress, he’ll push for the online sales tax, which would allow states to tax their citizens for online purchases. The Marketplace Fairness Act isn’t just backed by Democrats – Republicans like Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY) and Lamar Alexander (R-TN) penned the bill.
Those who shop online to avoid state taxes know that taxation decreases purchasing power. States looking to cash in on the hard work of others – even as they tax the incomes of those who live in state – may want to think twice before cracking down on citizens’ purchasing decisions.
