CALEXICO, California - A California-based food distribution company is recalling candy imported from Mexico because it contains high levels of lead.

King Midas Inc. said Friday it is warning stores to stop selling Hola Pop, a caramel lollipop with a salted apricot in the center. The candy also comes in other fruit flavors.

The company says recent analysis of Hola Pop by the California Department of Public Health found that the candy contained a high level of lead.


Pregnant women and parents of children who may have consumed an Hola Pop candy are advised to consult their doctor to determine whether they should undergo medical testing.

Holy cow, lead is DEADLY.

One of my children once had a lead level of 55. She was SO sick, and we had the health dept come in and test our home (we rented at the time). She was eating paint chips without us knowing and it came close to killing her. The chelation treatment for lead poisoning is almost as poisonous as the lead itself; it made her even more sick (lowered immune system). Years later, this same child caught Scarlet Fever twice in three months.

Dear God I hope no child is hurt by this. It causing irreversible damage.
