Thread: CSpan2 - Sen Sanders talking about msgs from Americans

FYI: On floor of Senate, recounting messages received from US citizens on the issue of economic disparity and well-being of middle and working class citizens (Vermonters primarily, but others as well).

He is reading messages received by average people on floor of Senate. He said he is doing this because it is important for the Senate to hear from average Americans, and not just listen to corporate contributors and special interest lobbyists.

The US Senate just received a badly needed dose of reality from average Americans folks.

A couple of those letters from people hit hard, really hard.

It's reassuring to know there is at least one senator in DC that truly 'gets it'.

Gee, one of those stories came from my very metro area too - who woulda thunk it?!?!

WEll Phrede I've sent many faxes lately with our stories in the News sections about this very thing and asking for the Save Act to be passed and enforced. I've also sent faxes with personal stories I know about. I think the one with the Oregon supervising firefighters being laid off or demoted because only one person in the 20-man crew spoke Spanish was a absolute tragedy in this nation. It is in the news section and this and the one with the contractor's fight to get other businesses to pay taxes and not hire illegals is also a very good story.

I'm bouncing off of real stories in the news and sending them to their state representatives, my congressman, senators, Pelosi and Reid. It is a way to chizel down the amount of faxes or calls but is pertinent to their states and to all Americans.

I just got online on C-Span2 and heard the senator read the last letter and it was great! It went over everything Americans are going through financially. Apparently a lot of people are going through way worse than I am but I fear it won't be long until a lot more of us are going through the same things these folks are going through. MY GOD! WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!!! I wish I could have seen the whole thing.

The only problem is I think this is for the bill to bail out the mortgages. So if that is what its for, I'm not sure I'm for that. But if they are relating it to illegal immigration that's fine.

I missed most of it also, caught the last letter....and alot of this congress wants to raise Visa limits and give amnesty to illegals...They have to be living on another planet, because they are certainly not on this planet!

Chex - Well, I'm glad you appreciated that. Yes, I believe things are worse than most will admit - especially those running the government.
While I realize Sanders is not the best on Illegal Immigration, and leans to the left on many economic/labor issues, he still has been a stalwart champion of working Americans - always - and unapologetically so.

I like the idea of reading the communications from Americans on the floor of the senate. The senators are typically too insulated from the life circumstances of average Americans. Some of those letters were VERY effective. Oh, BTW, his web site lists the theme of that speech as "Middle Class Collapse" (4/09/200

I like the guy myself. I realize that not everyone here is politically aligned as he/I are on economic issues (I'm socially fairly conservative, but economically moderate to progressive) - Sanders is too.
