Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who resigned in disgrace, has no been charged with a sex crime.
“Disgraced ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo is expected to be arrested next week and charged with a misdemeanor in the alleged groping of a former aide,” The New York Post said.
“A Misdemeanor Complaint against former Governor Andrew Cuomo has been filed in Albany City Court” a spokesperson said, Fox News reported. “As this is a sex crime, a redacted complaint will be available shortly.”
“My clients are enormously grateful for the courage of the women who have come forward to speak the truth about Cuomo’s misconduct,” Mariann Wang, an attorney for Cuomo accusers Alyssa McGrath and Virginia Limmiatis said. “Cuomo is being held to account as he should be, including by being forced to answer a criminal charge. We hope that all men who abuse their power by abusing women will see this and understand that there will be real consequences to their profoundly damaging behavior.”
New 4 New York reported.
Lucian Chalfen, a spokesman for the state court system, confirmed a misdemeanor complaint against Cuomo had been filed in a “sex crime” case in Albany City Court.
A copy of the complaint from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, obtained by News 4, alleges that Cuomo committed the misdemeanor act of forcible touching at his official residence on the afternoon of Dec. 7 last year.
“At the aforesaid date time and location the defendant Andrew M. Cuomo did intentionally, and for no legitimate purpose, forcibly place his hand under the blouse shirt of the victim [redacted] and into her intimate body part. Specifically, the victims (sic) left breast for the purposes of degrading and gratifying his sexual desires, all contrary to the provisions of the statute in such case made and provided,” the complaint said.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced his resignation from the office of governor in August.
“I’m a New Yorker, born and bred. I’m a fighter and my instinct is to fight through this controversy because I truly believe it is politically motivated, I believe it is unfair and it is untruthful and I believe it demonizes behavior that is unsustainable for society,” he said.
“I love New York and I love you and everything I have ever done has been motivated by that love,” he said on Tuesday.
“I would never want to be unhelpful in any way. And I think that given the circumstances the best way I can help now is if I step aside and let the government get back to governing,” he said. “And therefore that’s what I’ll do because I work for you and doing the right thing is doing the right thing for you.
“Kathy Hochul, my lieutenant governor, is smart and competent. This transition must be seamless he said.
“This situation by its current trajectory will generate months of political and legal controversy. That is what is going to happen. That is how the political wind is blowing. It will consume government. It will cost taxpayers millions of dollars,” he said.
He also took responsibility for his actions that caused this.
“I have done it all my life. It’s who I have been since I can remember. In my mind, I have never crossed the line with anyone, but I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn,” he said. “There are generational and cultural shifts that I just didn’t fully appreciate – and I should have. No excuses.”
This came after the Albany County sheriff’s office says that it will not be “intimidated or coerced” in the criminal investigation of the state’s controversy-ridden governor Andrew Cuomo, which was filed by a former executive assistant to the governor.
Cuomo has denied any wrongdoing.
Prior to that, the assistant reportedly told investigators for the James report that Cuomo groped her privates in different incidents, and made repeated suggestive comments to her, CNBC reported.
