Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) is pushing a ban on AR-15s and similar firearms under the guise that “no one needs a semiautomatic rifle” for home defense.
Of course, homeowners who face criminals that are armed with semiautomatic rifles might beg to differ.

Nobody needs an AR-15 to hunt.
Nobody needs a semi-automatic rifle to defend their home.
But mass shooters NEED these weapons in order to murder as many people as efficiently as possible.
And so nobody will miss them when they are illegal - except for the killers.

Consider three of the most egregious aspects of Murphy’s claims:
- “No one needs an AR-15 to hunt” — This 180 degrees from ATF Deputy Director Ronald Turk’s emphasis that AR-15s have become a standard platform for hunting. On January 20, 2017, the Washington Post published a “White Paper” wherein Turk wrote, “The use of AR-15s, AK-style, and similar rifles now commonly referred to as ‘modern sporting rifles’ has increased exponentially in sport shooting. These firearm types are now standard for hunting activities. ATF could re-examine its 20-year-old study to bring it up to date with the sport shooting landscape of today, which is vastly different than it was years ago.”
- Murphy suggests “semiautomatic rifles” are not needed for home defense — On May 28, 2017, Breitbart News reported that an Oklahoma homeowner’s son was home alone and outnumbered 3-to-1 by home invaders. He was able to level the playing field by retrieving an AR-15, which he used to kill all three invaders in self-defense. On August 19, 2018, Breitbart News reported that two Glen St. Mary, Florida, residents turned the tide on seven home invasion suspects by opening fire with an AR-15 and a 9mm handgun. One of the invaders was killed and the others fled–or crawled away–amid shots fired in self-defense.
- Murphy says mass shooters “need” semiautomatic rifles to carry out their heinous acts — In reality, mass shooters just need a gun free zone. Such a zone gives them the benefit of time wherein they can use any kind of gun they want to take innocent lives at their pace. The Virgnia Tech gunman (April 16, 2007) killed 32 using only handguns. He had the benefit of knowing that none of his victims could shoot back.
On March 11, 2019, Breitbart News reported that Murphy cited the Sandy Hook Elementary School attack during a push for gun control that would not have prevented that attack from occurring. Murphy was pushing for criminalization of private gun sales, but the Sandy Hook attacker stole his guns. So no amount of point-of-sale regulations would have impacted him.

Dianne Feinstein Applauds New Zealand Gun Ban; Says America Should Follow
Washington, DC — “Never let a good crisis go to waste” were the words of Barack Obama Chief of Staff Rahm
Emanuel.
That is exactly what New Zealand has done in the wake of the mass shooting of two mosques by a
crazed gunman.
Just hours after the shooting, the Prime minister of New Zealand vowed to ban semiautomatic
firearms and implement stricter regulations on buying a gun.
They did just that, and now U.S Senator Dianne Feinstein is applauding their actions saying America
needs to follow their example.
She released a statement on Thursday saying:
“In country after country, massacres are followed by sweeping changes to gun laws, as logic would
dictate. If there’s a problem – particularly a deadly problem – it’s contingent upon policymakers to
find solutions.

Despite all these tragedies, Republicans in Congress have repeatedly blocked each and every
proposal to enact responsible gun safety laws.
To New Zealand and every other country that took steps to reduce gun violence, congratulations.

deadly public health scourge. Without action, our country will continue to face these tragic events
over and over again.”
Anti-gun politicians love to tout school shootings to push their second amendment hating agenda.
What they seem to always forget is that essentially all mass shootings occur in gun free zones
where the law-abiding gun owner cannot shoot back.
Gun grabbers believe that a sign with words will prevent a criminal from committing something
already illegal: Murder!
We know that “common sense gun reform” does not stop criminals from doing wrong. It only
prohibits the law-abiding citizen.
If anti-gun Senator Feinstein could have her way, America would look like Chicago with thugs and
criminals running rampant throughout the streets.

A post made on March 25, 2019 on New Zealands’s largest largest firearm forum recounts a gun owner’s run-in with police who arrived at his workplace to question him on the number and location of his guns.

Imagine: You’re at work, you’re doing your job and you’re earning your pay when all of a sudden the cops show up to ask you questions about your firearms.
Your boss watches, assuming in the back of his mind that you’ve done something wrong, that you’re a dangerous criminal and that he’s got to find a way to fire you – and fast!
That’s what gun-control ultimately looks like, but things in New Zealand are about to get worse!
One gun owner, a 54 year-old welder and steel-fabricator named Troy Dubovskiy, reportedly committed suicide after a three-hour standoff with police that began when they came to his house after somebody in the public had anonymously reported his 16 year-old son for having a now-outlawed weapon.
Several days before, Dubovskiy’s son had reposted a previously posted photo of himself with an airsoft rifle on his own social media account.
When the police came to investigate, Troy Dubovskiy, who had a previous record for assault, was afraid that he was going to go back to prison because he owned a weapon that had been made illegal only six days earlier.
Not wanting to go to prison, he refused to cooperate with the police and holed up in his car. After a three hour standoff and multiple attempts to call his son and ex-wife, Troy took his own life.
His son never got to say goodbye.
According to the news article, Troy was a veteran of both the Soviet and later the Russian Army and spent time in Afghanistan and Chechnya while assigned to a Special Forces unit. It was also reported that the boy and his Dad played airsoft together.
When his home was searched after his suicide, police found airsoft guns, an 8mm blank pistol, and an SKS carbine. The SKS was outlawed under New Zealand’s new ban only last Thursday.
That’s Big Gun Control’s vision for America. One inch at a time, until you can be turned in by anonymous member of the public and face armed cops at your front door or workplace.
It’s outrageous.
