Democrat Senate Candidate Raphael Warnock is Against Letting Georgians Arm Themselves for Church Defense
Georgia’s Senate Race Has Strong Policy Implications for the Second Amendment

AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News reported that Democrat Senate Candidate is against allowing Georgians to arm themselves for church defense.
Hawkins cited Warnock’s opposition to a bill in 2014 that would have allowed lawful Georgians to carry firearms in churches.
The legislation in question, the Safe Carry Protection Act, expanded the number of places citizens could carry firearms for self-defense. At its core, the bill’s aim was to lower the number of gun-free zones, aka criminal safe spaces. The bill was eventually passed and went into effect on July 1, 2014. This legislation allows “Georgians with a license…[to] carry firearms into bars, libraries, schools, churches, government buildings and unsecured areas of airports.”

Warnock was taken aback by the passage of this law and declared, “When I say pass the peace, I don’t mean pass the piece.”
He continued, “The answer to America’s gun violence isn’t to encourage masses of people to carry guns.”
Warnock was quoted in Mother Jones where he opposed the expansion in carry regulations, observing, “Guns are not allowed in the state Capitol. But they want them in our churches and in our schools. Have you lost your mind.”
Under Georgia’s Safe Carry Protection Act, individual churches have the ability to determine if lawful individuals can carry in their premises. Texas adopted a similar measure in 2017, which lets churches use armed volunteer security teams to defend church attendees. Such a policy allowed Jack Wilson to heroically neutralize an armed assailant at the end of 2019 in a church setting,
Georgia’s runoff elections for the U.S. Senate will play a crucial role in determining the political fate of the country. Should Warnock and his colleague Jon Ossoff win these runoff races, the Second Amendment will likely hang in the balance. A 50-50 Senate with Kamala Harris as the tie-breaking vote is a scenario that gun owners should avoid at all costs. Pro-Second Amendment voters in Georgia should be voting Republican without hesitation during these runoff races.
