Comfort Inn housekeeper makes unusual discovery

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41) -- A housekeeper working at a south Louisville hotel made an unusual discovery in one of the rooms Wednesday afternoon.

Shively Police say they were called to the Comfort Inn in the 4,000 block of Dixie Hwy. near Crums Ln. shortly after 12:00 yesterday afternoon. Police say the housekeeper found 20 fake Pennsylvania drivers licenses in Room 122. The fake licenses all had the same photo, but different names, ID numbers and addresses.

The room was registered to 22-year-old Jafar Sodiqov, of Newark, N.J. Sodiqov had just checked out of the room -- but realized he'd forgotten something and returned to the hotel. Police say that, when he saw officers inside his room, he ran down the hallway and out the rear door.

Police apprehended him a short time later and charged him with criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Officers say they believe Sodiqov, along with another suspect named "Abas" stayed in Room 122 for three days waiting on a FedEx package to arrive containing the fake licenses. The package arrived shortly before Sodiqov's arrest -- and it had his name on it.

N.Y. Man Arrested In Ky. With Fake Penn. IDs

SHIVELY, Ky. -- Shively police said they aren't quite sure what type of case they have on their hands.

The discovery of a bizarre FedEx package led to an arrest at a Dixie Highway hotel.

It all started just after noon on Wednesday at the Comfort Inn. A housekeeper went in to clean Room 122.

Police said she immediately spotted an item that wasn't meant to be left behind.

"She got in to do her normal cleaning and inside she located an envelope which contained these forged IDs," said Shively Police Detective Josh Myers.

Hotel managers called police to tell them about the envelope, which held 20 Pennsylvania drivers licenses. The IDs were all brand-new, each with the same picture but different names, addresses and identification numbers.

Less than 30 minutes later, police said 22-year-old Jafar Sodiqov came to the front office saying he left something in Room 122.

"He goes in the room and doesn't find what he's looking for and that's when the first officers arrived on the scene," said Myers.

Then they say Sodiqov took off running, he made it to the back of the building where there was an 8-foot chain-link fence with barbed wire across the top.

Sodiqov was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives talked with hotel employees and discovered the suspect and another man checked into the hotel on Sunday.

Police said that a few hours prior to checking out on Wednesday, Sodiqov signed for a FedEx envelope containing the forged licenses.

"They look like they were issued by the state of Pennsylvania, but I haven't verified with them if they are authentic forms of identification or if complete forgeries," said Myers.

Police said Sodiqov lives in New York but he is only in the United States on a student visa from Tajikistan.

Detectives don't know why he came to Kentucky or what he planned to do with the forged IDs.
