There are life jackets on Ferries. Ferries run all the time across this country. Passengers do not put them on when they board the Ferry. Ferries sink. It is not a requirement to wear it during the cruise.

Life jackets are on pleasure boats, passengers do not wear them while boating all day. You should be aware where the life jackets are and get one when needed in case of emergency.

Those life jackets are visible (overhead) for people to use their heads, grab one and get off a sinking boat.

They just raised the Duck boat, I see all the life jackets in the roof of it, they are overhead your seat to grab it and use it. They had plenty of them.

Those windows are plastic, they roll up. When water hit the window bottom, and water coming up the floor board...YOU ARE GOING TO SINK, they should have started getting out the windows.

Do people really think the person driving the boat was going to stop, put a jacket on each and every person and tell them what to do? Nonsense.

I am not going to wait for someone to tell me when to get out of a burning building, out of a plane crash on the tarmac, bus crash or train crash...not waiting for the train conductor to tap me on the shoulder and say "get off the train lady".

We have elderly parents in their 80's, we both would have grabbed the jackets, get on dad, mom and get them out the window and get our ourselves out.

I do not believe they were told "not to wear" it. They were probably told no need to wear it on the cruise. But I guess you have to now say and spell it out and give them a pamphlet that says "gee, if we are sinking YES you need to put the jacket on" that is what the are for. We don't keep 'em here for decorations, good grief.

The life jackets aren't going to be an issue in the lawsuits.

The micro burst and storm and waves caused the accident. It was floating fine before the storm hit.

Many people on shore also commented on the winds and destruction on their property.

Life vests were available, people chose not to get one on and get off the boat. That is what you do on any boat in distress.

If the building is on fire, you get off the couch and get out.

If the plane goes off the tarmac, you unbuckle your belt and get out the Exit doors and the chute.

If the Ferry hits a rock, get your life jacket and get off the boat.

If the train goes off the tracks, find an opening and get out.

Do people have no personal responsibility, whatsoever, to save themselves?

It was a tragic accident, no doubt, but at what point do you realize you had better save yourself?

Wait for someone to give you instructions? No.

According to the woman who survived, they told them, even when the boat was being tossed around, that they didn't need the life-jackets.

I'm sure that money is on their mind. Much like hospitals, hotels, and everything else, once something like a vest is put on, it must be cleaned and repackaged before being reinstalled in its storage slot. So there is an incentive to delay using such devices.

When you fly on an airlines, the Flight Attendant demostrates the use of floatation devices and emergency procedures as the flight begins. THEY DO NO HAVE YOU TRY ON THE DEVICES AND REHEARSE THE PROCEDURES!

This is a boat. They point out the devices. But they and you don't expect catastrophe. Few who go the tours know much of anything about boating. It is a sightseeing tour.

I do not believe this woman or delay in using devices. Really?

Those vests are not in a package, they are hanging above your head in a rack.

Okay, you don't believe a person who was on the boat!

The point is, once used, they must be processed, not just put back. And that costs extra money. So the crew might hesitate suggesting their use, until it is too late, as in this situation.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by processed? Are these CO2 self-inflated vest, buckle, or buckle and zip life vest?
