    Federal Prosecutor: Detroit Doctor May Have Performed a Hundred Female Genital Mutila

    Henry Ford Health System/WXYZ News

    by JOHN HAYWARD8 Jun 2017

    The federal prosecutor on the case of Dr. Jumana Nagarwala of Detroit dropped what the Detroit Free Press describes as a “bombshell” in court hearings on Wednesday by estimating that “as many as 100 girls may have had their genitals cut” by the doctor.

    The original allegations against Nargawala, who entered a not-guilty plea, involved two girls and six criminal counts, including a conspiracy to transport the victims across state lines from Minnesota. The owners of the clinic where the genital mutilations were performed, Dr. Fakhruddin Attar and his wife Farida, have also been charged in the case. The victims were seven years old.

    Federal authorities have so far identified six other victims of the operation. Most of the families involved are facing custody termination proceedings for subjecting their children to female genital mutilation, as are Dr. Nagarwala and her husband.

    Assistant U.S. Attorney Sara Woodward reportedly stunned the court by relating an estimate from the federal government that Nagarwala and her accomplices may have performed female genital mutilation on up to a hundred girls over the course of 12 years. She revealed the information in an unsuccessful attempt to convince U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman to deny bond to the defendants.

    Judge Friedman did grant them bond on the condition that they surrender their passports, remain under house arrest with GPS monitors, and communicate with no one except their families and legal teams.

    “Due to the secretive nature of this procedure, we are unlikely to ever know how many children were cut by Dr. Nagarwala. The Minnesota victims were not the first victims,” said Woodward. She went on to say that one hundred victims might be a conservative estimate.

    The defense rejected Woodward’s assertion. “I think the government has overstated so many aspects of this case and this is one more example of overreaching,” scoffed defense lawyer Mary Chartier, who represents Dr. Attar.

    Defense lawyers argue that the procedures performed at Attar’s clinic by Nagarwala were part of a “protected religious rite of passage that involved no cutting,” and they insist the defendants are suffering persecution for their religious beliefs. They obtained bonds for their clients by arguing that they are not a danger to society and pose no flight risks.

    The Attars belong to an Indian Shiite Muslim sect called the Dawoodi Bohra, which has been denounced for its practice of female genital mutilation in India. About 125 families are said to belong to the Bohra mosque attended by the Nagarwalas and Attars.

    FGM practitioners believe the clitoral head is “unwanted skin” that serves as a “source of sin” and can lead women to stray from their marriages, as the Hindustan Times puts it.

    The parents bury the tissue in a religious ceremony after the FGM procedure, which can inflict lifelong pain on its victims. One of the victims in the Nagarwala case said she could “barely walk, and felt pain all the way down to her ankle” after the procedure. The victims said their mothers lied to them about going on a “special girls’ trip” when transporting them from Minnesota to Attar’s clinic in Detroit and that they were told to keep quiet about their experience afterward.

    The case against Nagarwala and the Attars is the first prosecution of female genital mutilation in the United States. Nagarwala, a Johns Hopkins graduate who worked as an emergency room physician for the Henry Ford Health System, was fired from her job after she was arraigned on the FGM charges, which could put her in prison for the rest of her life.

    FGM is not limited to the relatively small Dawoodi Bohra sect, which has about a million members worldwide. It has become a highly controversial topic among Muslims, as seen in the unrelated case this week of a Virginia imam condemned by his mosque for endorsing the practice in a videotaped lecture. The imam, Shaker Elsayed, advised Muslim parents to discuss “minimal” FGM for their daughters with Muslim gynecologists, warning that in “societies where circumcision of girls is completely prohibited, hypersexuality takes over the entire society and a woman is not satisfied with one person or two or three.”

    There is much debate over the incidence of FGM in the United States. Claims that the practice is almost unheard-of have fallen by the wayside as health authorities continually revise their estimate of victims upward. The most recent studies warned that over half a million women and girls in the United States are at risk of being subjected to the procedure.

    A Virginia imam is advocating for female genital mutilation, or FGM, despite the fact that the practice is illegal in the United States.

    Imam Shaker Elsayed of the Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Virginia, appears to believe that abusing women under the guise of religious purity codes is morally virtuous.

    Mutilating a little girl’s genitals today can prevent “hypersexuality” in the future, says Imam Elsayed in a sermon to parishioners. After suggesting that the more extreme forms of mutilation may need to be avoided, the imam lectures his parishioners about seeking guidance from Muslim gynecologists familiar with the illegal procedure.

    FGM is "the honorable thing to do if needed,” he preaches, detailing the supposed virtues of the horrifying practice. Imam Elsayed explains:
    [Cut] the tip of the sexually sensitive part of the girl so that she is not hypersexually active...in societies where circumcision of girls is completely prohibited, hypersexuality takes over the entire society and a woman is not satisfied with one person or two or three.
    The depraved talk was posted on YouTube and caught the attention of MEMRI, a watchdog group that monitors Islamist rhetoric around the world.

    Watch:

    “Elsayed’s comments during a lecture on child rearing and family life last month sparked a brief controversy last Friday after a right-wing watchdog group circulated a video clip of his speech online,” reports The Washington Post.

    The Board of Directors at the imam’s mosque only condemned their religious leader’s comments Monday after the public began voicing outrage over the leaked video.

    Representatives of the Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center added that the brutal practice of FGM violates both U.S. and Islamic law.

    However, the mosque failed to acknowledge that FGM is not all that uncommon in the Islamic world.

    “FGM is practiced throughout the world, with an estimated 200 million women and girls having undergone genital cutting as a coming-of-age ritual, typically under age 15,” notes NPR.

    Shockingly, FGM is practiced with increasing frequency in the United States. The high-profile arrests of three FGM-practicing Muslim doctors in Michigan recently introduced the topic back into the national conversation after complacency and naiveté fooled Americans into believing that such a horrific practice can only occur in third-world countries.

    Cases of FGM in America have been skyrocketing, largely as a result immigration from FGM-practicing Muslim-majority countries like Somalia. The Daily Wire reported on the disturbing phenomenon in May:
    The CDC states that the massive increase in the monstrous practice of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) is “wholly a result of rapid growth in the number of immigrants from FGM/C-practicing countries living in the United States.” Virtually all of the countries listed by the CDC were dominated by Muslims.

    And that’s not even including Indonesia, the largest Muslim nation. The author of the 2016 study asserted that if Indonesia were included, the number of victims would increase by “several tens of thousands.” Recently-retired CDC researcher Howard Goldberg told The New York Post, “Indonesian figures became available after we wrote our paper, but it turns out that FGM was much more common in Indonesia than had been thought.”
    As Paula Kweskin, a human rights lawyer and producer of the film Honor Diaries points out, “In the United States, 507,000 women are at risk or have undergone the procedure.”

    In an op-ed for USA Today, Kweskin argues that the country shouldn’t turn a blind-eye to FGM or worse, defend and excuse it, due to fears stemming from political correctness or so-called “Islamophobia.”

    “Culture is no excuse for abuse. No religion or culture should be the impetus for hurting, mutilating or abusing anyone, and our children should be protected. For too long, FGM has been practiced under the radar in the United States. … My hope for all women and girls is that we will stand for equality,” writes Kweskin.

    In an effort to sanitize the brutal practice, Islamist-apologists, rearing their ugly heads in such platforms as The New York Times, have suggested that calling the mutilation of female genitals “mutilation” may be offensive to Muslims. Instead, these cultural relativists argue, the practice should be referred to as “cutting.”

    Below is the World Health Organization’s (WHO) comprehensive classification of FGM. It’s important to note just how much damage this practice can do to young girls.

    Decide for yourself whether this sort of “cultural” practice should be tolerated, much less excused:
    Type I — Partial or total removal of the clitoris and/or the prepuce (clitoridectomy). When it is important to distinguish between the major variations of Type I mutilation, the following subdivisions are proposed:
    Type Ia, removal of the clitoral hood or prepuce only;
    Type Ib, removal of the clitoris with the prepuce.
    Type II — Partial or total removal of the clitoris and the labia minora, with or without excision of the labia majora (excision). When it is important to distinguish between the major variations that have been documented, the following subdivisions are proposed:
    Type IIa, removal of the labia minora only;
    Type IIb, partial or total removal of the clitoris and the labia minora;
    Type IIc, partial or total removal of the clitoris, the labia minora and the labia majora.
    Type III — Narrowing of the vaginal orifice with creation of a covering seal by cutting and appositioning the labia minora and/or the labia majora, with or without excision of the clitoris (infibulation). When it is important to distinguish between variations in infibulations, the following subdivisions are proposed:
    Type IIIa, removal and apposition of the labia minora;
    Type IIIb, removal and apposition of the labia majora.
    Type IV — All other harmful procedures to the female genitalia for non-medical purposes, for example: pricking, piercing, incising, scraping and cauterization.
    As WHO explains, the practice cannot be seen as anything another than a traumatic assault on the female body and a violation of basic human rights:
    Female genital mutilation has no known health benefits. On the contrary, it is known to be harmful to girls and women in many ways. First and foremost, it is painful and traumatic. The removal of or damage to healthy, normal genital tissue interferes with the natural functioning of the body and can cause several immediate and long-term health consequences. For example, FGM can cause excessive bleeding, swelling of genital tissue and problems urinating, and severe infections that can lead to shock and in some cases, death, as well as complications in childbirth and increased risk of perinatal deaths.
    Communities that practice female genital mutilation report a variety of sociocultural reasons for continuing with it. Seen from a human rights perspective, the practice reflects deep-rooted inequality between the sexes, and constitutes an extreme form of discrimination against women.
    No society, let alone a post-Enlightenment Western democracy, should tolerate this shocking level of cruel barbarity against women. There is no excuse. There is absolutely no justification for abusing little girls. Period. It’s evil. It’s vile. It violates every precept we hold dear as a civilized society. By tolerating such intolerance, we forfeit our own humanity.

    “Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance,” wrote Karl Raimund Popper. “If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them.”

    These people are butchers. They are criminals, need to have their sexual organs 'cut' and then be locked up in a sexually active prison for the rest of their natural lives. I am so sick of strange men worrying about women's sexuality. Look at how ugly that guy is, the thought of that face with the thought of sex would be enough to keep most women pure. JUST HAND THEM A PICTURE OF YOURSELF, you sickening, ugly bastard.

    On the other hand, if you are little boy in this country and do not display sufficient masculinity, you are "transgender" and made available for castration and mutilation of your genitals and body to provide you with some perverse parody of a woman's genitalia. That and a lifetime of being dosed with hormones to make you grow breasts. Like with female genital mutilation, parents are brainwashed into enthusiastic support in raising their little boys to accept a future like this.

    Compared with that, female clitoral castration looks pretty tame. I guess it is no surprise that there is no hard resistance or confrontation to female genital mutilation in the West.

    Not only that, but last I heard, transgender surgery is available in Muslim countries, even where they hang homosexuals, as in Iran.

    I don't understand the transgender situation. But, I can understand that something genetically got mixed up and the brain and emotions feel and are a different gender than the body. I can see how this can happen. The brain that controls this is a very complex organ, and I can see where wires got crossed, so the issue is does society invoke itself upon these people and force them to stay the wrong gender, we can't change the brain, at least not in that way, not yet, but medical technology can with relatively good success change the body, so why not? I would rather have than transformed happy people than original unhappy people. That's how I see it. These people have only one life to live same as everyone else, and they should have the right and our support to try to be as happy and comfortable with themselves as they and medical technology can help them to be.

    LOL!! Ooh boy, I have "that much right" to say whatever I want like everybody else. But you raise a good point about the age requirements for this type of dramatic surgery. It's usually 18 in the US, but I found an article where Oregon "quietly" passed a law in 2015 to allow the surgery as soon as 15 without parental consent.

    But you quietly ignore the more important aspect of this nightmarish hysteria. The surgery has to wait, but brainwashing the little boys can begin as early as the parents and other authority figures want. They can begin filling the little kid's mind with this garbage as soon as they decide he doesn't measure up to their standards of masculinity. As soon as he reaches for the pink blanket or plays with a doll. There are no age restrictions here, toddlers can be identified as "transgender". There are entire books that parents can read to guide them in this.

    I'm not sure what you mean my nightmarish hysteria. I don't approve of genital mutilation of women or girls for religious reasons. I don't consider that a "tame" alteration. As to transgender sex changes, I don't know at what age this should be done, but it seems the older the better from a medical standpoint simply because bodies and brains are changing through those formative years and what may seem one thing at one age changes to something else at another age. I'm not aware of brainwashing little boys into wanting sex changes to become girls because of what color or toy they like, that's a new one for me, and if that is going on, then that is totally wrong in my book and something should be done to the people doing such an awful thing.
