(CNN)
-- A massive explosion at a military airport outside Damascus led to a large fire Sunday night.
"It was big," said CNN's Fred Pleitgen, who saw the explosion at al-Mazzeh airport from the capital. "White flash and then big plume of smoke and fire."
Two activists in Damascus told CNN a massive fire broke out at the airport, though it was later put out. There was no information on injuries or what caused the blast.
Al-Mazzeh is a large military airport. The al-Mazzeh area is also home to embassies, security buildings and the homes of some members of the Syrian president's inner circle, according to opposition activists.
