These Gun Violence Stats Are So Simple Even an Ex-CNN Show Host Can Get Them

Let’s make this so simple even someone who hates guns and wants them banned for no other reason can understand it. Observe the chart above.

This graphic from FactCheck.org, which is no friend of conservatives. Observe that gun ownership is up — contrary to an “independent study” by the discredited Violence Policy Center circulated by Huffington Post and other left-leaning publications.
In fact, while gun homicides are at their lowest level since 1981, gun ownership per hundred people increased 5.7% between 2001 and 2007. Concealed carry and “right to carry” laws have flourished across the nation, especially since 1991. There are now 40 states with right to carry laws, and the states cover the majority of the U.S. population.
And the end result… a Mad Max scenario of roving gangs of legal gun-owners driven by the mere possession of “military style” rifles? Nope, violent crime has fallen on nearly all official government metrics. Let’s visualize the trend of murders in the United States:

The statistics being used in the graphic above are based on published material and official government statistics. One can question if the government is lying, but that’s a separate matter for discussion.

Does it look like Americans possessing firearms for self-defense is driving the murder rate? If it does, then one needs to check an ophthalmologist, because the trends are running exactly contrary to your argument. Guns cannot be causing murder and other violent crimes if nearly all official crime rate statistics are decreasing dramatically, while gun ownership has increased or stayed roughly constant.
As economist John Lott and David Mustard concluded, “allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons deters violent crimes. . . . [W]hen state concealed handgun laws went into effect in a county, murders fell by 8.5 percent, and rapes and aggravated assaults fell by 5 and 7 percent.”
This is the exact opposite conclusion of Democrat lawmakers who want to register Americans for seemingly innocuous “background checks,” similar to what Canada and Britain did before those countries literally confiscated firearms. The left can shout about “red herrings” all they like, but many Americans know better and can sniff the gun-grabbing agenda a mile away.
Saying that there is no correlation between gun ownership and homicide is an understatement. Firearms possession and its potential threat for criminals and other predators deters property crime, violent crime, and yes… even tyrannical government.
Note: This is not my first article on gun violence. If one wants to argue about this, first read my author archive.
