A fugitive on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorist list could be hiding out in western Massachusetts, said the agency.

The FBI issued a public notice on Nov. 17 seeking the public’s help in locating Daniel Andreas San Diego, who was allegedly involved in two eco-terror-related bombings in the San Francisco area in 2003 and 2009. The FBI said it received a tip that San Diego may be in the Northampton, MA, area, which is 15 miles north Springfield, MA. It’s offering a reward for up to $250,000 for information leading directly to his arrest.

San Diego was the first domestic terrorism suspect added to the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorist list, on April 21, 2009, said the agency.

San Diego’s wanted poster on the FBI’s Web site alleges he was involved in setting off two bombs on Aug. 28, 2009 on the campus of a biotechnology company near San Francisco. The agency also alleges San Diego exploded a shrapnel-laden explosive at a nutritional products company in Pleasanton, CA on Sept. 26, 2003. It said he should be considered armed and dangerous.

A federal arrest warrant was issued for San Diego in October 2003, said the FBI, but he disappeared before he could be taken into custody. He was indicted in the United States District Court, Northern District of California, in July, 2004, it said.

The agency describes San Diego as six feet tall, weighing about 160 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. He wears glasses and is known to carry a 9mm handgun, it said.

San Diego has ties to extremist animal rights groups and is a strict vegan, said the FBI. He has worked as a LINUX computer network specialist and likes sailing, it said.

He also telegraphs his beliefs with his tattoos. The FBI said there are images of burning hillsides in the center of his chest, with the words ‘it only takes a spark’ printed below. His sides and back have images of burning, collapsing buildings and there is an image of a single tree rising from a road on the center of his back. The agency said he may have significantly altered the tattoos or covered them with new ones.
