China Unveils New Jet… That They Built with Stolen U.S. Intel

November 1, 2016

Using hacked US military blueprints, China has publicly unveiled their controversial stealth jet that is a near carbon copy version of the American F-22 version. The unveiling took place in the southern city of Zhuhai, in Guangdong province, where the J-20 stealth fighter passed by onlookers in awe.

Despite Beijing’s insistence the designing of the jet was entirely of their own, the aircraft schematics are believed to have been obtained by Chinese hackers earlier this year. There has been little information attained about the overall capabilities of these Chinese jets, other than they are strikingly similar in appearance to their possible U.S. counterparts.

“I think we learned very little. We learned it is very loud. But we can’t tell what type of engine it has, or very much about the mobility,” said Greg Waldron, Asia Managing Editor of FlightGlobal. “Most importantly, we didn’t learn much about its radar cross-section.”

In terms of the weaponry and firepower of these jets, analysts are also questioning the Chinese’s tactics. “It’s a change of tactics for the Chinese to publicly show off weapons that aren’t in full squadron service yet,” said Sam Roggeveen, a senior fellow at the Sydney-based Lowy Institute. “It demonstrates a lot of confidence in the capability, and also a lot of pride.”

“This shows they now have confidence to put it out in public,” said a Western industry official who monitored the display put on by the Chinese.
