Firearms Manufacturers Begin Moving To Texas As Other States Abandon The Constitution

Rick Perry has appealed to businesses in high-tax states like California and New York to come to the Lone Star State if they want to thrive because of its low taxation and lighter regulatory burden. Now, with more states “up north” considering or passing strict and constitutionally questionable gun control legislation, gun makers are following other businesses to Texas, and one of them is to the gun industry what Wyatt Earp and J. Edgar Hoover were to law enforcement.

A firearms company that makes AR-15 style rifles for the iconic brand Colt, will open a plant in Breckenridge in Stephens County. Oregon company Bold Ideas confirmed the development…Bold Ideas goes by the name Colt Competition, making high accuracy rifles for competition shooting.
The announcement has not yet been officially made by the company but it appears like a done deal. Employment applications are already being distributed by a local Chamber of Commerce, and a generic “Help Wanted” ad has appeared in the classified section of a local newspaper.
CBS DFW reported that sources are saying Colt Competition is moving operations into a large vacant industrial space in the city of Breckenridge, in North Texas, about an hour east of Dallas-Fort Worth. The building was previously owned by a mobile home manufacturer.
The move by Colt Competition comes after comments by the CEO of Colt Manufacturing in Connecticut indicating that soon, there will be few good reasons if any to remain in a state that has just passed one of the nation’s most restrictive gun laws. Colt began making firearms in Connecticut in the 1840s.
The move also follows letters sent to gun makers by Perry encouraging them to make the move to Texas. The governor sent a message out on Twitter to a Colorado maker, Magpul, on March 21, which said, “Come on Down to Texas.” Perry’s office hasn’t said whether it sent a recruitment letter to Colt Competition but it doesn’t matter; the company appears to be moving there anyway.
Local residents and business owners are thrilled to have the legendary arms maker in town.
“I’m tickled to see ‘em get something like that,” said Butch Spencer, who owns E-Z Pawn and Gun. “I think that’d be a lot better than a mobile home factory.”
Local resident Jim Mitchell said the decision by Colt Competition to move to Breckenridge has a potential to draw in more firearms makers to the much more politically friendly Texas.
“We’re in line to help ‘em, and do the best we can, and they’ll be of great benefit to the community,” he said. “We’ve already got people going, ‘Hey I’m moving to Breckenridge.’”
On the national level, President Obama and gun-grabbers in both parties are attempting to make moves by gun makers to gun-friendly states a moot point. On April 11, senators voted to advance new gun control legislation by shamelessly exploiting the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School that views Second Amendment supporters and law-abiding gun owners as second-class citizens.
Offered in a “bipartisan” manner by Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of “Buckwild” West Virginia and Republican Sen. Pat Toomey of “cling to their god and guns” Pennsylvania, the measure includes new background check requirements that essentially require legal gun owners to repeatedly prove themselves worthy to Big Brother every time they purchase a firearm (no such requirement, by the way, exists for any other amendment in the Bill of Rights).
What’s really in the bill, however, remains a mystery because few beyond its authors have seen it. There has been no publication of it and no debate of its provisions on the Senate floor. Like Obamacare, those ram-rodding it through have to pass it so we all know what’s in it.
“Because the background-check measure is the centerpiece of this legislation it is critical that we know what is in the bill before we vote on it,” Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz said. “The American people expect more and deserve better.”
