BACK TO WORK! – 500,000 Welfare Recipients In 23 States Lose Benefits Starting In Feb
Posted by Bob Amoroso / January 30, 2016
Sometimes it takes a little “tough love” to motivate those able-bodied individuals, to get off their backsides and do a little job hunting.
According to recent reports, between 500,000 and 1 million of SNAP (Food Stamp Program) recipients will lose benefits over the course of 2016 due to the return of a three-month limit for unemployed adults aged 18 to 49 who aren't disabled or raising minor children.
The impact will affect recipients in the 23 state that are required or electing to re-impose the time limit in 2016.
This provision limits individuals to three months of SNAP benefits in any 36-month period when they aren’t employed or in a work training program for a minimum of 20 hours a week.
This obviously sounds like a sound idea in getting the chronically unemployed back into the job market, however government has in the past instituted similar measures only to fall back as the primary enabler of able-bodied individuals not seeking employment, and in many cases responsible for promoting a “welfare mentality” within the inner cities.
However this program is considerably different then the others, in that it operates on a time limit basis rather than opportunity, so more people are set to be cut off than the other programs.
In short the time limit becomes the motivating factor in getting a job and forces the welfare recipient to actually look for employment…let’s see if tough love actually works, like in getting a job!
What do you think of these new restrictions on SNAP benefits?
Do you feel that 90 days is more than enough time for someone out of work to get some form of employment?
