A Chandler man allegedly spit on the crotch area of an officer's pants while being detained for an arrest warrant, court documents state.
Chandler police saw a man later identified as Luis Enrique Marquez in an alley near Ray Road and Arizona Avenue, according to documents. The alley had an odor of marijuana in the air, police said.
Marquez fled when police approached, but after a pursuit he was detained by police, documents state. One of the officers recognized Marquez as having an active warrant for his arrest.
As police tried to put Marquez in the patrol car, he kicked the door twice and then spit on the officer.
Marquez was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail for the warrant. Police also recommended charges of aggravated assault on law enforcement.
