Is it possible the drug cartels are actively targeting tourists in an effort to retaliate against the Mexican government for their efforts in combating the drug cartels. It seems as if the violence in Mexico is exploding and in many cases, tourists who have nothing to do with this fight are being killed.

It's beyond me how any American(or anyone) could vacation in Mexico now. It's insanity to do so.

Thank you for the update feduphispanic.

Mexican gun laws for Mexican citizens are very restrictive allowing Mexican citizens little means for self-protection. They are at the mercy of these bandits.

Nearly all of the violence is attributed to drug cartels by the government and the news. Is that true? Are there other warring factions with an agenda not drug related?

Congress will be voting on the $1.6 billion anti-drug package to Mexico this week. Calderon wants this money--is that why we hear so much in the news attributed to the drug cartels?
