Gun shop owners continue to experience a surge in business, and they cite a potential second term for president Obama as the driving force.
Cris Parsons, owner of Houston Armory tells Fox 26 that he has a huge backlog of orders and cannot get parts into stock fast enough to keep up with demand.
“Even the smallest parts are six to eight months back order. Even the little things, so it’s getting very difficult to get a whole gun assembled and sell a complete gun because of a lack of parts,” Parsons said.
Parson says his customers are telling him that it is a fear of Obama winning re-election that is spurring them to buy increased stocks of ammo and weapons.
“If he wins the election, he’s got nothing to lose, so a lot of people think he’s going to go after guns if he gets a second term,” Parsons said.
Gun enthusiasts fear that Obama will use his second term to follow through on a promise he made to gun control advocate Sarah Brady during a White House meeting last year, that his administration was working “under the radar” to sneak attack the second amendment rights of American citizens.
Parsons also said that “doomsday preppers”, survivalists who believe a break down in society or a significantly large natural disaster is imminent, are also causing the sales spike.
Staff at the gun store said that since a show on preppers began airing on Natural Geographic, they’ve seen an up-tick in sales by around 30 percent.
As we reported last month, following record one day sales on Black Friday back in December, gun stores are also celebrating all time high sales for the month of February.
Gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson’s shares also shot up 18 per cent in March, their highest level in two years, on the back of reports of a 60 per cent surge in backlog orders.
Interest in gun shows is also rampant, with record turnouts showing up to events nationwide. Concealed carry permits in the state have soared by as much as 270 per cent over the last year in some counties.
A recent survey commissioned by National Geographic found that there are around 3 million “preppers” in America who are actively taking steps to protect themselves from the threat of unforeseen chaos. The vast majority of Americans who took part in the poll said they expected a “major catastrophe” to hit the United States at some point, with 51% believing there will be a financial collapse within 25 years and 29% fearing a super virus pandemic.
