ATF: Guns recovered in Chihuahua City shootout traced to El Paso man

Guns recovered in a shootout in Chihuahua City in September 2006 were traced to an El Paso man, according to testimony by an ATF agent during a detention hearing today at the federal courthouse.
Juan Carlos Meza is accused of buying several handguns and rifles at gun shops in El Paso that were then allegedly exported to Mexico, including buying weapons for a drug cartel hit man, testified Special Agent Frank Henderson in the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives.

Meza, who is a citizen of Mexico but a legal resident of El Paso, was denied bond by U.S. Magistrate Judge Norbert Garney, who said Meza was a potential flight risk and a "danger" because of the nature of the crime. Meza's co-defendant Roberto Marquez will have a detention hearing Thursday.

Can one make a guess that Meza, who is a citizen of Mexico but a legal resident of El Paso, is a cartel member?

What did Meza's pre-legal status background check show?

The Mexican government is so corrupt, can ANY of their citizen's background checks be believed?
