Healthcare overhaul debate in a nutshell

Healthcare overhaul debate in a nutshell

    November 7, 2009 | 12:41 pm

As Congress worked its way through the maze of healthcare reform, it was easy to lose sight of the cheese. To help keep the eyes on the prize, here is the gist of the arguments as put forward this afternoon:

Democrats are pushing the bill arguing it expands insurance coverage to almost all of the country, excluding undocumented workers.

Choice is expanded by creating a government-funded insurance option and exchanges to increase consumer awareness in buying insurance.

It reforms insurance company practices so that no one is denied coverage because of previous conditions.

This is especially important for women who have been victims of domestic violence or have had cancer.

It ends the doughnut hole in Medicare drug coverage.

It strengthens Medicare by making it more solvent.

It brings preventive services, such as screening and testing, to many who do not have it now.

It has been endorsed by groups such as AARP, which represents senior citizens, and those of nurses and doctors.

It helps women by eliminating gender ratings.

All 177 Republicans, joined by some Democrats, are expected to vote against the House bill. Their arguments include:

The bill is too expensive, more than $1 trillion over the next 10 years. And given the current recession, it is unaffordable and would place an undue burden on future generations.

The bill takes resources from where it is needed: the creation of more jobs at a time when unemployment is in double digits.

It gives too much power to government.

Tort reform is a better way to go because it will lower costs long-term by freeing doctors to practice medicine without fear of being wiped out.

The bill should be opposed because it contains civil penalties for violations and taxes that will hit businesses especially hard.

The bill hurts seniors by cutting benefits and spending for Medicare.

That's some of it but hundred more points were made on both sides in the House. Timing, intent, ramifications for future generations, bureaucracy, taxes, loss of choice in coverage, tort restrictions, abortion, illegal aliens benefits, and on and on.

Kill the Bill. Any bill that wants to send any American to jail for not purchasing health insurance is pure low-down evil.

Then throw every one of these low-down pond-scum traitors that voted for it out of office in 2010, then repeal this piece of socialist-communist anti-liberty crap and pass a law that prohibits the Congress from ever again in the future introducing any health insurance program that doesn't apply to people 65 and older or for very poor people who need government assistance through the MediCaid program.

    Laissez-faire. Leave the people alone.

    A good question

The best argument I heard today by a Republican is that if this health care system that the Democrats are trying to shove down our throats is so wonderful, why did the Democrats put in punitive measures like a $250,000 dollar fine and up to 5 years in jail for Americans that don't comply with this bill?

People in jails and prisons get free healthcare, paid for by the taxpayers.

Is that what they call irony?

It's what you call Evil Irony. We're in our Period of Ironies and Opposites and this piece of crap legislation is the best proof yet of the depths and lengths to which these traitors will go to destroy the United States and break the spirit of the American People.

    They must be stopped.

Irony is also when a large group(the AARP) sided with the healthcare plan and at the same time have a huge article in their Bulletin (which I just got today) about the ENORMOUS problems of FRAUD in the Medicare system. A system run by this government. A system that they say has gone haywire due to the lack of enforcement and funding for enforcement. Sounds a little like our southern border!

Was reading the article and it points to Miami as the Medicare fraud capital of the nation. Just one group involved in fraud collected $101,000,000.00. That is MILLIONS of dollars.

Benitez brothers Carlos,Luis, and Jose of Miami also took down $84,ooo,ooo,oo dollars and were buying helicopters and hotels and even Mazarati's. Isn't that kind of action monitored when someone goes out and spends an incredible amount of money. I believe that is how they caught persons associated with a armored truck robbery years ago.

There's no way this bill will pass in its present form. There's too much irrational crap in it. All that stuff about jail time, fines and illegal aliens will be cut out. More that 75% of the voters are opposed to insuring illegals. But Congress is going to pass it anyway? No way is that going to happen.
