Pete Buttigieg Sets L.A. Fundraiser Hosted by Gay Hollywood A-List (Exclusive)

The co-hosts of the event include some of the highest-profile names in Hollywood, among them Ryan Murphy, Matt Bomer, Simon Halls, Bryan Lourd, Bruce Bozzi, Greg Berlanti, Robbie Rogers, Kevin Huvane and Billy Eichner.
The prospect of the first openly gay commander-in-chief is creating an unprecedented coalition of some of Hollywood’s most powerful gay producers, writers, agents and executives who are ready to open their home — and their checkbooks — to support the candidacy of 37-year-old Pete Buttigieg.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that plans are underway for what will most certainly be Buttigieg’s most high-profile industry fundraiser to date. The event will be held June 19 in Los Angeles at the home of TV superproducer Ryan Murphy and husband David Miller with some of Hollywood's most potent gay power players and couples ready to attach their names as co-sponsors for the event.
In addition to Murphy and Miller, co-hosts include Matt Bomer and husband Simon Halls; CAA partner Bryan Lourd and husband Bruce Bozzi; TV mogul Greg Berlanti and producer husband Robbie Rogers; former Peopleeditor Jess Cagle and TV writer-producer husband Matt Whitney; CAA partner Kevin Huvane; and actor Billy Eichner.
Buttigieg recently dipped his toes in the local donors' waters late last month. The South Bend, Indiana, mayor made the rounds with a series of appearances at intimate gatherings with insiders and potential supporters at places like management-production company Brillstein-Entertainment Partners and the private residence of D.C. whisperer and former CAA agent Michael Kives.
Buttigieg formally announced his bid for the White House on April 14, and has since upped his profile with appearances on Ellen DeGeneres' daytime talk show, Late Night With Seth Meyers and Real Time With Bill Maher. That recent trip to L.A. apparently went well. He is expected to be back in California next month. Buttigieg will be stumping at two events in San Diego on May 8, followed by three events in L.A. on May 9 and six in San Francisco on May 10, according to reports.
After announcing his candidacy, Buttigieg has fielded donations from such Hollywood notables as Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Whitford, Mandy Moore, Jane Lynch, The L Word creator Ilene Chaiken and billionaire mogul James Murdoch. And, on the same day Buttigieg revealed his plans, Bomer, for one, took to social media totease the upcoming fundraiser.
In recent weeks, Buttigieg has been surging in the polls. According to The Hill, a new poll of Iowa voters shows that Buttigieg came in third among likely voters behind former Vice President Joe Biden (expected to formally announce his bid sometime in the coming days) and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. To keep the momentum going, Buttigieg continues his campaign blitz and will again make another series of stops in California even before he takes to Murphy's backyard.
As for Murphy and Miller, it won't be the first time they’ve opened their home for a presidential hopeful. On April 12, they hosted an event for California Sen. Kamala Harris. At that gathering, they shared co-hosting duties with Lourd and Bozzi; power lawyer Jeanne Newman and former Fox Television Group co-CEO Gary Newman; and ABC Entertainment chairman Dana Walden and husband Matt Walden.

TRUMP’S LGBTQ PRIDE T-SHIRT HAS ACTIVISTS FREAKING OUT

    1:51 PM 05/24/2019 | POLITICSDavid Benkof | Contributor

As recently as a decade ago it would have been unthinkable: a Republican president celebrating gay pride with an inclusive message for LGBTQ supporters. And just as unthinkable would be gay organizations denouncing that president’s embrace.
Yet that’s precisely what’s happened this week with the Trump Campaign’s unveiling of the “Trump Pride Tee,” a T-Shirt with rainbow stripes and the slogan LGBT FOR TRUMP.
“Show your pride and your support for Trump with this exclusive equality tee,” declares the campaign website, hawking the shirt for $24 alongside other T-shirt designs like Veterans for Trump and Women for Trump that promote the president’s re-election campaign.
Gay activists expressed outrage in the last few days that the Trump campaign would welcome LGBTQ support while taking policy steps they reject. One opponent of the Trump Administration tweeted “This is probably the stupidest, most hypocritical, most ridiculous thing I have seen today.”
And the gay group GLAAD said on Twitter that “Trump should hold the sales pitch and try issuing a statement honoring June as National Pride Month and the countless of LGBTQ Americans who fought tooth and nail for the level of acceptance our nation sees today.” GLAAD pointed to what it said were 108 “policy and rhetoric” attacks on LGBTQ Americans.(RELATED: Trump — The Most Pro-Gay President In American History?)
The Trump Administration has made some moves to support the gay community, such as an initiative to oppose anti-gay laws worldwide. But it has also opposed transgender service in the military and reversed Obama initiatives on gender identity in schools and the reinterpretation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
Some gay Republicans were thrilled by the T-shirts. “I think it’s a wonderful step,” said Adam Savit, the president of Log Cabin Republicans-DC. “It reflects the fact there is real grassroots support for Trump among some segments of the LGBTQ community.”
Similarly, registered Republican Craig Shute, who did not vote for Trump, said “there are a lot of things to hate about Trump, but having queer supporters isn’t one of them.” He said gay groups were going to hate the president “no matter what he does” — for example, had he issued the pride month statement, they would accuse him of pandering.
Jerri Ann Henry, the Executive Director of Log Cabin Republicans, a gay group, took a more practical approach. While she called the sale of the T-shirt “a big deal,” she also said she hoped “it’s not just T-shirts. I hope that it’s real policy change because at the end of the day that’s what we all care about.”
The shirt was added to the Trump campaign store just in time for next month’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, the event that sparked the gay liberation movement.
While the shirt would enable Trump supporters to display their politics at summer marches and rallies, some gays and lesbians may be more cautious for safety reasons. For example, Savit said that while he’d be working his group’s booth at next month’s DC pride festival, he wouldn’t wear an LGBTQ Trump T-shirt at the event because of the hostility and even physical assault he might face.
