House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio is demanding that a deal with the Democrats and the White House over the budget of the next fiscal year should include language prohibiting government resources from funding censorship activities in federal agencies.
Jordan's demand comes as House Republicans and the GOP leadership are once again at odds over supplemental spending bills.
"We want certain language on these appropriation bills," said Jordan during an appearance on the "Just The News, No Noise" television program. "When we get to those that says, you know, no money can be used to censor Americans, if it's that kind of language, no money can be used to develop a disinformation governance board at the Department of Homeland Security like they tried to do a year ago." Jordan has been at the forefront of House efforts to uncover the role the federal government has in censoring Americans. Most recently, he has subpoenaed Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Special Agent in Charge Elvis Chan to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on the government's collusion with Big Tech companies in their censorship efforts.
This subpoena comes after Chan did not appear for a scheduled interview with Jordan and it compels the FBI agent to testify in order to establish the "extent the Executive Branch has coerced and colluded with companies and other intermediaries to censor speech."

Chan worked out of San Francisco as the FBI's Foreign Influence Task Force liaison to Big Tech companies, including ahead of the 2020 election. Chan reportedly directed social media companies to specific content in order to have them censored.
"It is necessary for Congress to gauge the extent to which FBI agents coerced, pressured, worked with or relied upon social media and other tech companies to censor speech," said Jordan.
GOP infighting could prevent a ban on censorship spending

In one of the latest clear signs that cracks are forming within the Republican Party, five GOP hardliners voted with Democrats to block the advancement of a bill that would have approved funding for the Department of Defense.
This defiance of party leadership apparently irked House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who was seen walking off the House floor and telling reporters: "Look, the one thing you're going to learn about me: I like a challenge – I don't like this big a challenge – but we're just gonna keep doing it until we can make it."
"The House Republican dynamic is difficult – at best – with one bloc taking an all-or-nothing stance while threatening McCarthy's job at the drop of a hat, while another bloc seeks compromise in an attempt to pass legislation that would stand a chance of passage in Chuck Schumer's Democrat-controlled Senate," wrote Mike Miller in an opinion piece for Red State. "McCarthy's job of bringing House Republicans together and passing a conservative bill to keep the federal government open is not dissimilar to trying to herd cats."
Speaking of his own efforts, Jordan noted that the party ought to zero in on specific issues that it would like to address and push for tangible concessions from the Democrats. He hopes one thing Republicans can come together on is providing more spending to stem the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States.
"I think you – when in politics, when you have one really good issue you can, you can hone in on," said Jordan. "And right now I think that issue … is the open border we have."
"So let's say in this bill that funds the government for a short period of time, let's say, 'no money can be used to process and allow … new migrants into the country,'" Jordan added. "After all, you got the Democratic mayor in New York saying that we need to do something [about illegal immigrants]. Send that kind of bill to Chuck Schumer and see what he does."
