”A prominent GOP donor in Florida is threatening to cut off funding to Republicans who oppose a ban on assault weapons.

Al Hoffman, Jr. recently fired off an email to incumbent Gov. Rick Scott and former Gov. Jeb Bush, both Republicans, among a handful of others about the decision.

“I will not write another check unless they all support a ban on assault weapons,” wrote Hoffman, a real estate bigwig. “Enough is enough!”


Keep in mind this is the same donor who coughed up $ 1 million to open borders, big government, RINO Jeb Bush’s campaign in 2016.


This wet-behind-the-ears nitwit has forgotten history, or ignores it, especially that of Cuba, when Cuba was turned into a military type dictatorship, gun confiscation took place among ordinary people and property was confiscated by government, including the real estate of disarmed privately owned citizens.


The very purpose of our Second Amendment was to preserve the right of the people, at last resort, to defend themselves against an oppressive and immoral government, and this would include the right to bear arms such as the semiautomatic AR-15, an infantry style weapon, which this nitwit believes is the cause of mass shootings.

If Al Hoffman, Jr. really wants to do some good, he should focus his attention on the gun violence constantly portrayed in movies and video games which has desensitized our nation’s younger generation to killing, violence, and the kind of mayhem which has recently taken place in Florida where I live. He should also join the millions of gun owners across America who constantly ask why our existing gun ownership laws are not strictly enforced.

The astounding fact is, every time one of these incidents happens in a “gun free zone”, someone with a gun is called to protect the children. The sad truth is, nitwits like Al Hoffman Jr., have become an impediment to actually taking positives steps to deal with these incidents while preserving the right of the people to protect themselves from an oppressive and immoral government.

That's your projection! I don't think they wanted us all to be a military of one! There should be a limit to the type of weapon civilians are allowed. The second Amendment clearly defines the purpose to be for a "well regulated militia"!

I find it interesting that you identified the AR-15 as "an infantry style weapon", something many gun enthusiasts have tried to disavow.

Yes!

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The right of the people to keep and bear Arms is as clear as it gets. It doesn't say guns, it says Arms. The 2nd Amendment applies to individuals, not just militias. It also says, this right shall not be infringed.

On the other hand -
No one becomes a mass shooter without a mass-shooting firearm
18 is too young to purchase a mass-shooting firearm
A history of mental illness, on meds, police called to home multiple times should disqualify one for a mass shooting firearm not just a conviction
Apathy in keeping/reporting these records should call for dismissals/fines

The whole system needs to be tidied up a degree or 2.

I agree, artist. No 18 year old should be able to legally buy a gun by themselves. No 18 year old should be in the military handling guns or using them. No 18 year old should be voting in US elections, either. When an 18 year old by age is too young to buy a handgun or a beer, they are too young to vote and too young to serve in the US military.

18 year old Americans today are not the 18 year old Americans of years gone by.

Either that, or the ones judging them don't know what they're talking about.

Can't have it both ways in my book.

By the way, an AR-15 is not a mass shooting firearm any more than a handgun. VA Tech shooter used handguns.

You don't find what I wrote "interesting". You are trying to create a distraction where none exists. TheAR 15 is very similar to the military M16, but it is semi-automatic while the M16 is fully automatic. The AR 15, as a practical matter is the civilian version of the M 16 minus the automatic feature.

ar 15 is a semi auto rifle that you can buy at the age of 18 - a 20-30 round magazine. It is much more than a gun - you have to be 21 to buy a gun
