Letter to the Editor of San Diego Union Tribune Newspaper
Fraternal Order of Retired Border Patrol Officers Newsletter
Chief Fisher's Letter to the Editor of San Diego
Union Tribune Newspaper
"The deliberate, unmitigated violence against my agents is going to stop." With these few words, I directed my command staff to find a way to make this directive become reality and to establish a new way of doing business. Today, we stand resolute and committed to this objective.
Many of you may be aware of our operational deployments along the border with Mexico as the increase of violence against Border Patrol Agents continues at unprecedented levels. Last year, one out of every four assaults against agents along the 2,000 miles of border with Mexico occurred in San Diego . Not only is this trend continuing, but it is dramatically increasing; since October 2007 we have recorded over 100 assaults thus far. Nearly twice a day, the men and women of the San Diego Sector Border Patrol, who have unselfishly taken an oath to protect this great Nation, are subjected to violent assaults from criminals operating in Mexico .
mw Now no matter how much you attack me, I'm not going to back down from voicing my concern over this fence. I think far too much attention is being paid to this fence by the politcians and far too little actual work toward getting it done. I think they are using it as misdirection so they look like they are doing something, when they aren't.
While we are all out here talking about this fence, demanding this fence, they are going right along pandering to, giving benefits to, illegals and kowtowing to Mexico.
A fence is not a bad thing - if built correctly. It will not do the job by itself. WE must have interior enforcement and the BP must have the freedom to do their jobs.
The fence is something the congress can keep talking about for a least another year and discussing, and designing, all the while, the illegals are voting, Mexico is interferring in our politics and our law enforcement, anchor babies are being born.
Why should anyone resent questions about this? I don't understand.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Honestly I am still open minded about this and still listening to all the canidates, I want to see how much they flip flop and I have issues I want clarified.
Anyway I will get the information up inbetween all i have to get done and if you have the information feel free, but I want facts so people can make the decision on their own priorities, not on mine, I don't mind stating my position and debating (thats fun). I just want to be sure we put out facts and then we can debate how we feel about the facts, with respect for each others opinions. Please support ALIPAC's fight to save American Jobs & Lives from illegal immigration by joining our free Activists E-Mail Alerts (CLICK HERE)

I'm willing to listen to any explanation someone can can provide to dispute my claim that the assaults are increasing due to the extreme fustration being brought on by the border fence and increased BP activity. Barriers are never the "answer all" in security, however, they are certainly part of any good security plan that involves keeping unwanted guest out.
I'm not attacking you personally, nntrixie. However, I am attacking what I feel are misguided thoughts on the necessity of a quality fence (double-layered) along the border. Heck, I for one wish we could get the entire border fenced immediately."The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**

But your question is backwards. How many times have trade sanctions helped overthrow a dictator and improved the lives of citizens in those countries?
We had trade sanctions against Iraq for years (Saddam still managed to live it up).
We have had trade sanctions against Cuba for even longer (Castro does not go without whatever he wants)
We have had trade sanctions against N. Korea for a long time (Kim Jong-il seems to be getting by just fine.)
Whereas the trade sanctions have arguably kept the citizens of those countries impoverished.

Fair enough mw I won't take it personally.
I don't think it is frustration, I think it is determination. If they were just frustrated, they would move on down the fence and do their thing.
The fence is only one part of the equation.
If our government, the states, and locals were enforcing the laws, the fence would help.
As long as they know the BP have their hands tied, as long as they know they can either come here to work, or come here and sell their drugs, blending in with the illegals living here, it is not going to be that effective.
These assaults include smugglers throwing large rocks at the agents (at times after the rocks have been wrapped in cloth, doused in kerosene and lit on fire), launching glass bottles, large pieces of wood, steel ball bearings fired from sling shots, to name a few. To those who would argue that this violence is perpetrated by juvenile delinquents and that we should expect this as a "cost of doing business", I offer the following: criminal organizations (alien smugglers and drug smugglers) are hiring known criminals to cross into the United States illegally, create a diversion, and lure our agents into an ambush. When our agents respond, the criminals use military style tactics and "triangulate" their offensive, pinning down the agents in a violent assault. While the agents seek cover, the smugglers move people and contraband over the fence into our neighborhoods.
From the same article.
IT is little more than frustration, they are getting through and the difference seems to be the violence aimed at the BP agents.
Perhaps I'm wrong, I don't see how - a fence with nothing no interior enforcment to back it up, won't do that much.
First off, when I am trying to make up my mind about something that is being done, I remind myself just who is in charge of getting it done - just who made the laws regarding it and who will have to enforce them.
These are, by and large, the same people who have been up there for years and years. The same ones who have occupied the WH and called us bigots who wanted something done. The same people who have encouraged, protected and persecuted BP agents trying to do their job - lying and breaking the law themselves to do it.
That makes me wonder why suddenly that bunch are going to jump out there and, in time to matter, are going to build a fence that will work - first off.
Then when I see their interior enforcement being show and tell, made for TV, raids = complete with accompanying sob stories about the poor illegals. Then we find rather than deporting them, we are going to detain them - for who knows how long. While the money earmarked may supposedly have been for the attorneys to hasten their deportation, we know we will be paying for their attorneys as well.
Think about it - do we really think these people are going to build a fence that will work?
And we don't know what kind of fence they will build, if they build, they are still looking at designs per the story posted a couple of weeks ago.
I think we will get the fence that is designed by the biggest contributor to the 'right' campaigns.
Meanwhile the time bomb is ticking inside our country.
A very Merry Christmas to you and yours. May next year give us back our country.[/b]Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
