Over the weekend a mainstream media web site on the east coast published, presumably in the interest of public safety, a complete list of individuals and businesses that are licensed to carry or own handguns.

Much to the amusement of those who would confiscate firearms from law abiding citizens, the list, complete with an interactive map, essentially allows those who are preparing to commit such crimes as burglary, robbery or worse to locate specific addresses where residents are armed.

The problem, of course, is that in their haste to publicly out and embarrass legal gun owners, The Journal News actually did exactly the opposite of the intended purpose of their exclusive breaking report.

You see, now when a criminal gang decides to target a particular home they can utilize the new map to zoom in on specific homes in a neighborhood to determine if they will be faced with any sort of danger should they choose to attack a particular target.

Put yourself into the criminal mind and consider what you might do should you be compelled to rob a home or business at gunpoint. With that new map available to you, would you be headed to the residence where there is a strong likelihood that someone is armed, or would you skip over that particular house and head to where you know there would be little, if any, resistance?

    It’s the epitome of irony.

When gun-grabbers and their ilk laugh about the new interactive map publicly exposing lawful gun owners, what they have actually done is outed those citizens who have no means of defending themselves.

It’s pretty safe to say that if one were to have a sign placed in front of their home, Americans would overwhelmingly prefer to have this one:

As opposed to being the neighbor in this photo:

In the near future criminals are going to realize the internet is a powerful tool for determining the feasibility of striking certain targets. It’s only a matter of time before flash mobs begin to organize, not against gas stations or pharmacies, but private citizens and residences.

Should such a thing happen, and fifty people kick in your door and intend to have their way with your family and property, those millions of assault rifles that have been flying off the shelves around the country are going to come in real handy.

While we cherish our privacy and agree that the outing of gun owners has gone beyond responsible journalism, if their is going to be a list, we’d rather be on the one that has our residence listed as heavily armed as opposed to the alternative.
You may be one of those proud non-gun owners who didn’t make the east coast list.

And if you are, you should be terrified, because you may very well be in grave danger.

Hypocrisy Of Liberals Who Cling To Their GunsDec 28 2012

    Posted 12/27/2012 06:56 PM ET

Gun Control: A different set of gun laws applies to network anchors, but even stranger is a newspaper publishing a map showing not only who has a firearm but also telling predators who doesn't.

It should have been sufficient for the Gannett-owned Journal News, headquartered in White Plains, N.Y., reporting on increased calls for stricter gun control in the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre in nearby Newtown, Conn., to have noted that about 44,000 people in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties in the Lower Hudson Valley — one of every 23 adults — was licensed to own a handgun.

But using data obtained under a Freedom of Information Act request, the paper went further and printed an interactive map showing the names and addresses of gun permit holders — a pathetic attempt to shame and embarrass them for exercising their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

In an editor's note accompanying the map, it's pointed out that Journal News reporter Dwight R. Worley hypocritically owns a Smith & Wesson 686.357 Magnum and has had a residence permit in New York City for that weapon. It is not known if his house is one marked on the map, but at least he can post a "Protected by Smith & Wesson" sign.

Hypocrisy among those supporting more gun control is nothing knew — from the liberal elites who live in gated communities to Hollywood and music industry stars who travel with armed entourages. Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California is readying legislation to reintroduce the ineffective 1994 ban on assault weapons that expired in 2004 with no impact on the crime rate.

Yet, as radio talk show host Mark Levin points out, Feinstein owns a concealed firearm. "If somebody tries to take me out," she says, "I'm going to take them with me." Seems her life matters more than those of her constituents.

The apparent thrust of the Journal News piece and the paper's position is that guns are dangerous, even though the story's author owns one, and that readers should know which of their neighbors has a firearm and is a potential loose cannon, no pun intended, that threatens their safety.

But it's the Journal News that threatens their safety, because all an armed predator has to do is avoid those homes marked on the map and hit the unmarked. Avoid the red dots and break into the other homes in clearly discernible gun-free zones. Perhaps we could publish maps listing the names and addresses of gun control advocates, those with gun permits, and those who do and those who don't leave home without packing heat.

"Meet the Press" host David Gregory apparently broke a law by waving an empty high-capacity ammunition clip on the air last Sunday during an interview with the NRA's Wayne LaPierre. Under D.C. law, it's illegal to possess even an empty clip. So far the Journal News has not called for his arrest for doing what would be a felony for the rest of us.

What Gregory and the Journal News don't tell us is that over the last 20 years, the firearm crime rate has dropped, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, from 6 victims per 1,000 residents in 1994 to 1.4 victims per 1,000 residents in 2009. This has happened as more and more citizens arm themselves.

Only a handful of states had concealed-carry programs 25 years ago, when the violent-crime rate peaked.

Today, 41 states either allow carrying without a permit or have "shall issue" laws. Major crimes, except in gun-controlled major cities, have shown a continuing decline that has paralleled the rise in the number of right-to-carry states.

As the NRA's LaPierre says, the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

    Anti-Gun Newspaper Hires Armed Security

January 3, 2013 by Sam Rolley

    SCREENSHOT
The Journal News hired armed security guards to man its Rockland County, N.Y., headquarters.

The New York news organization that recently published a list of names and addresses of pistol permit holders in its locale has, in response to a torrent of angry phone calls and email, hired armed guards to defend its offices.

The Journal News elicited national controversy when it released an interactive map of pistol permit holders’ names and addresses in Rockland and Westchester counties on Dec. 23. The newspaper’s editors said they believe knowing where guns are located is a matter of public interest. The newspaper also took a strong editorial position in favor of strict gun control.

But following a barrage of angry phone calls and emails from gun owners that felt they were lampooned in the news for owning firearms as if they were sex offenders, the anti-gun publication felt the need to hire armed guards to protect its offices.

From another local publication, the Rockland County Times:
Guns are good for the goose but NOT for the gander.

A Clarkstown police report issued on December 28, 2012, confirmed that The Journal News has hired armed security guards from New City-based RGA Investigations and that they are manning the newspaper’s Rockland County headquarters at 1 Crosfield Ave., West Nyack, through at least tomorrow, Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

Meanwhile, despite anti-gun campaigning from media outlets like The Journal News and a number of politicians, the FBI reports that the number of background checks for gun purchases in America hit a new record in December.

Because newspapers are publishing maps of gun owners in NY, we thought it only fair to do the same in Texas. Attached is a map of Texas gun owners.
