Police are looking for two men who should be considered armed and dangerous in Fox Lake, IL.

An Illinois police officer was shot Tuesday morning, prompting a manhunt for two armed suspects outside Chicago, authorities said

The Fox Lake officer was shot about 55 miles north of the city, Lake County Sheriff's officials said.

Citing anonymous sources, WGN and NBC Chicago reported the officer died.

The identity of the officer and details of the incident were not immediately available.

    ABC7
reported the shooting occurred near an old cement plant.

Investigators said they were searching for two men and possibly a woman.

Police requested nearby Grant Community High School go on lockdown due to activity and for the "safety of our students and staff," the school said. Gavin South district schools were placed on "soft lockdown."

Officers combed a swath of the woods with canine units and helicopters, according to local reports.

Metra commuter rail service has been disrupted.

Do we have to ask if certain rallys and organizations are making good on rally promises.? Are we going to rise up on behalf of our police? Obama said he would always back our police, when he does every thing possible to prevent the border patrol from doing their job. Sorry, but you can only tell so many lies, the every thing you say is suspect. T
he sorry part is that we have no political party that tells the truth. At least I do not vote for them, and I'm proud to say so!

Illinois police officer shot and killed; hunt on for 3 suspects

    By Ashley Fantz, CNN
Updated 2:31 PM ET, Tue September 1, 2015

(CNN)An Illinois police officer was shot and killed in Lake County on Tuesday, authorities said, and search is on for three suspects.

Law enforcement on foot and in helicopters are combing the area, said Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Christopher Covelli.

The shooting happened about 10 minutes before 8 a.m. local time, according to the sergeant. The slain officer worked for Fox Lake Police, a community of about 60,000 people within Lake County.

The officer radioed that he was pursuing three suspects on foot, according to Cavelli.

The officer described them as two white men and one black man, he told CNN. Radio communication dropped off and backup officers were sent. They found the officer with a gunshot wound. He was a 32-year veteran of the police force, CNN learned from a law enforcement source.

    Law enforcement search for suspects.

Canine units have also been dispatched, and agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting.

Residents have been asked to remain inside their homes and businesses, he said. Some schools have been placed on lockdown, he said.

"We asked residents to report any suspicious activity they happen to see, whether they think it's something minor or major and to keep an eye out for these three individuals," Covelli said.

Illinois police officer shot and killed; one suspect in custody

By Ashley Fantz and Catherine E. Shoichet, CNN
    Updated 4:48 PM ET, Tue September 1, 2015 | Video Source:CNN

(CNN)Investigators combed neighborhoods north of Chicago Tuesday in a massive manhunt for suspects accused of shooting dead a police officer.

By Tuesday afternoon, one suspect was in custody, Illinois State Police Sgt. Matt Boerwinkle said.

It wasn't immediately clear who had been captured, and how many other suspects were on the loose.

The shooting happened about 10 minutes before 8 a.m., after the officer sent word over his radio that he was pursuing three suspects on foot, Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Christopher Covelli said.

The slain officer worked for Fox Lake Police, a community of about 60,000 people in Lake County, about 60 miles north of Chicago. The hunt for the suspects -- described by the officer as two white men and one black man -- put at least four schools on lockdown and left people barricaded in their homes in Lake County, Illinois.

"We asked residents to report any suspicious activity they happen to see, whether they think it's something minor or major and to keep an eye out for these three individuals," Covelli said.

The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a no-fly zone that covers two nautical miles over the search area.

    Slain officer was 32-year veteran

Authorities haven't released the identity of the slain officer.
He was a 32-year veteran of the police force, CNN learned from a law enforcement source.

"He loved his community and loved his job, and he will be very sorely missed in this community," said Catherine "Kay" Starostovic, Grant Township supervisor.

Radio communication dropped off and backup officers were sent. They found the officer with a gunshot wound.

Illinois Manhunt for 3 Suspects Involved in Shooting Death of Decorated Officer

The police officer who was fatally shot Tuesday outside of Chicago has been identified as a longtime veteran of the local police force, the mayor said.

Lt. Joseph Gliniewicz was named as the officer who was killed in Fox Lake, Illinois. The manhunt for three suspects believed to be involved in the shooting is underway and involves state and local officials, Lake County Sheriff's Department Det. Chris Covelli said.

"Not only did Fox Lake lose a family member but I lost a very close friend," Fox Lake Mayor Donny Schmit said at a news conference.

He said that Gliniewicz was a father of four boys and had worked for the force for more than three decades.
"Many residents here knew him as G.I. Joe," Schmit said.

The deadly shooting is believed to have happened after the officer sent a radio message saying that he was chasing after three men, authorities said.

The incident started at 7:52 a.m. Tuesday when the officer said via radio that he was pursuing three men, according to a Lake County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

Police lost communication with the officer after his radio message, and a backup officer found him injured, police said.
The suspects remain at large, the Lake County Sheriff's Office spokesman said. Canine crews are being used as well as officers on foot and in helicopters in the search.

The FBI is assisting local authorities and a representative told ABC News that they have agents on the ground. Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are already at the scene and the U.S. Marshals confirmed to ABC News that members of its Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force were headed to the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration established a temporary flight restriction over the search zone, and it is scheduled to be in effect until Wednesday afternoon.

Fox Lake is a suburb about 60 miles north of central Chicago.

According to the news, this was not a killing of a police officer because of rallies or anything like that. A little before 8 am he saw the three men walking in the fields near some abandoned businesses and he decided to approach them to ask them what they were doing there. He chased them when they took off and radioed for back-up, and somehow in that 3 minutes, he was killed. This was not a targeting of a police officer, this was a police officer chasing after the men and either they killed him or someone else did.

Everyone, please read the articles on these cases because they are not all part of the same MO, but law enforcement is trying to lump them all together as if they were when they aren't.

Police refused to give further details about the investigation, and would not confirm reports that Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz's gun was recovered at the scene where his body was found. Police initially said his weapon and pepper spray were missing.

Filenko did provide a general scenario about the circumstances surrounding Gliniewicz's death. He said the suspects were in an area of open fields and abandoned businesses, and the veteran officer apparently saw the men and stopped to question them at 7:52 a.m. local time.

Gliniewicz did radio for backup about three minutes later, but by the time other officers arrived, he was found dead on scene at 8:09 a.m., police said. In less than 15 minutes, the suspects were able to vanish.

Police say woman's lie diverted manhunt for Illinois officer's killers

    Published September 03, 2015 FoxNews.com

Police: Woman's lie diverted search for cop killer suspects
Police searching for the suspected killers of an Illinois officer said early Thursday that the manhunt was diverted by a woman who lied about seeing two suspicious men near the scene of the murder.

Kristin Kiefer, 30, has been charged with disorderly conduct and falsifying a police report. Authorities said she was being held at the Lake County jail pending a bond hearing.

Police said they responded to a 911 call made by Kiefer at approximately 9:20 p.m. local time Wednesday in Volo, about 5 miles south of Fox Lake, where Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz was fatally shot Tuesday after he pursued three suspicious men into a swamp.

Kiefer told police she had pulled over to the side of the road with car trouble when she saw two men, one white and one black, near a cornfield. She claimed they tried to get into her car, but fled because they feared she was going to call the police.

Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Christopher Covelli says about 85 federal, state and local law enforcement officials responded to the scene after Kiefer's report. They were joined by 11 police dogs and three air support units in the search, which lasted approximately five hours.

Police said Kiefer initially insisted that her account was true, but later admitted that she had lied. She said she was seeking attention from a family that employs her as a nanny and that she chose the location because it was close to where Gliniewicz had been shot.

The search for the suspects entered its third day Thursday, as teams moved out into subdivisions beyond the initial 2-square-mile perimeter.

"I'm not going to put a time limit on this. We've got a murdered colleague," Lake County Major Crimes Task Force Cmdr. George Filenko, the lead investigator on the case, told reporters Wednesday.

    "We're not gonna stop."

Meanwhile, hundreds of people gathered at a Fox Lake park late Wednesday for a vigil in memory of Gliniewicz, who was endearingly known in the community as "G.I. Joe"

The officer's widow, Melanie Gliniewicz, took to a stage in Lakefront Park surrounded by her four sons. She thanked the people attending the vigil and those offering their support and prayers.

"My world got a little bit smaller with his passing, and he will truly be missed by all of us," she said, adding her husband was her "best friend, my hero, the love of my life for the last 26 and half years."

A minister, Mike Johnson, said Gliniewicz died serving the community and was about helping others. He asked the crowd who among them would replace him.

Earlier Wednesday, longtime friend Tammy Rivette wiped away tears as she remembered the father of four sons who was "always helping people" and "always fair."

"Even the criminals liked him," she said.

Mayor Donny Schmit, a close friend for three decades, recalled how when Gliniewicz would respond after being told something: "Roger that."

"Every morning he said he was vertical and caffeinated," the mayor said. "These are the things about Joe I'm going to miss."
