Indian Woman Sold, Tortured After Entering Saudi Arabia on Housemaid Visa

Indian Woman Sold, Tortured After Entering Saudi Arabia on Housemaid Visa

    by EDWIN MORA
    25 Apr 2017

A woman from India was sold to her immigration sponsor for an estimated $4,700 after she entered Saudi Arabia on a housemaid visa and is being tortured by her captor, her daughter tells the Times of India (TOI).

“My mother is in trouble in Saudi. She wants to return home, but her Kafeel [visa sponsor] is not allowing her to get back here,” Sameena Begum, the victim’s daughter, told TOI.

Her daughter revealed that the victim “is facing mental and physical harassment at the hands of her kafeel (sponsor) in Saudi Arabia,” points the Indian news outlet.

“The torture started when she denied to a contract marriage with her Kafeel in Saudi Arabia. She, however, informed me sending a message that she was sold by agents. So the Kafeel does not want to send her back,” added the daughter, noting that her mother told her she was sold for 3 lakh, or 300,000 rupees (about $4,700).

Sameena’s mother has been identified as Salma Begum, 39, a resident of Babanagar, a suburb of Hyderabad in India’s Telangana state.

“I am trying all efforts to bring my mother back home. I kindly request Telangana and central governments to bring my mother back to India,” implored Sameena, noting that her Salma is asking New Delhi to intervene on her behalf.

In January, Salma was reportedly taken to Saudi Arabia on a housemaid visa by two local Indian agents identified only as Akram and Shafi.

“I even met Akram requesting him to get my mother back, but he did nothing so far. We went to [the local] Kanchanbagh police station, but the police appear to be unmoved by the matter and have not taken any action so far,’’ noted the daughter.

Although Indian authorities are aware of Akram and Shafi’s involvement, they have failed to take action against them.

Salma traveled to Saudi Arabia in search of greater financial security

Salma is reportedly the second woman to be deceived into going into the Sunni Saudi kingdom ruled by strict Islamic rules where authorities are known to broadly infringe women’s rights.

“The GCC [Gulf Cooperation Council] countries -Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE – manage its ‘temporary’ migrant workforce through the sponsorship or Kafala system,” explains TOI. “Under this system, a local citizen or local company (the kafeel) must sponsor foreign workers in order for their work visas and residency to be valid.”

“This means that an individual’s right to work and legal presence in the host country is dependent on his or her employer, rendering him or her vulnerable to exploitation,” it adds.

No Joke: U.N. Elects Saudi Arabia to Women’s Rights Commission, For 2018-2022 Term

    Additional videos at the link.

The Geneva-based human rights group UN Watch condemned the U.N.’s election of Saudi Arabia, “the world’s most misogynistic regime,” to a 2018-2022 term on its Commission on the Status of Women, the U.N. agency “exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women.”
“Electing Saudi Arabia to protect women’s rights is like making an arsonist into the town fire chief,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch. “It’s absurd — and morally reprehensible.”
“This is a black day for women’s rights, and for all human rights,” said Neuer. Interview: Why Saudis Joined Women’s Rights Body
“Saudi discrimination against women is gross and systematic in law and in practice. Every Saudi woman,” said Neuer, “must have a male guardian who makes all critical decisions on her behalf, controlling a woman’s life from her birth until death. Saudi Arabia bans women from driving cars. Why did the U.N. choose the world’s leading oppressor of women to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women?”

Saudi women feel betrayed by the UN. “I wish I could find the words to express how I feel right know. I’m ‘saudi’ and this feels like betrayal,” tweeted a self-described Saudi woman pursuing a doctorate in international human rights law in Australia.

“Today the UN sent a message that women’s rights can be sold out for petro-dollars and politics,” said Neuer, “and it let down millions of female victims worldwide who look to the world body for protection.”

How does Saudi Arabia win seats on U.N. human rights bodies? Cash & secret deals—even with adversaries like Russia. https://www.unwatch.org/leaked-cables-saudi-arabia-russia-traded-votes-for-unhrc-seats/ …

The fundamentalist monarchy is now one of 45 countries that, according to the U.N., will play an instrumental role in “promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women.”

Saudi Arabia was elected by a secret ballot last week of the U.N.’s 54-nation Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Usually ECOSOC rubber-stamps nominations arranged behind closed doors by regional groups, however this time the U.S. forced an election, to China’s chagrin.

Saudi Arabia was also recently re-elected to the U.N. Human Rights Council where it enjoys the right to vote on, influence and oversee numerous mechanisms, resolutions and initiatives affecting the rights of women worldwide, including:

The latest ECOSOC vote is reported in a U.N. press release:

Commission on the Status of Women:The Council elected by secret ballot 13 members to four-year terms, beginning at the first meeting of the Commission’s sixty-third session in 2018 and expiring at the close of the sixty-sixth session in 2022: Algeria, Comoros, Congo, Ghana and Kenya (African States); Iraq, Japan, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia and Turkmenistan (Asia-Pacific States); and Ecuador, Haiti and Nicaragua (Latin American and Caribbean States).
The only good news: thanks to the U.S. calling a vote — breaking with the Obama Administration policy which in 2014 allowed Iran to be elected by acclamation — Saudi Arabia was not elected by acclamation, but instead received the least votes of any other country: 47 out of 54 votes cast, even though there was no competition given that there was an equal amount of competitors for available seats. China and Uganda were upset, preferring the usual practice of rubber stamping clean slates.

Results of the elections, with all 54 ECOSOC members voting:

    African States: Algeria: 54 | Comoros: 53 | Congo: 53 | Ghana: 53 | Kenya: 53
    Asian & Pacific States: Iraq: 54 | Japan: 53 | Republic of Korea: 54 | Saudi Arabia: 47 | Turkmenistan: 53
    Latin American States: Ecuador: 54 | Haiti: 54 | Nicaragua: 52

    ______
It was a secret ballot, but the math tells us that at least 15 of the following democratic member states of the U.N. Economic and Social Council voted to elect Saudi Arabia to the U.N.’s women’s rights commission:

    • Andorra
    • Argentina
    • Australia
    • Belgium

Slavery is alive and well in Saudi Arabia and numerous other Muslim controlled nations in Middle East and Africa, but you never hear about it in America because the press in America is controlled by the Saudis and Chinese. The Saudis and the Chinese want white males bashed at every turn and the American public constantly reminded of the Holocaust and slavery in the old South with numerous movies and news broadcasts about that coming out each month... while you will hear crickets chirping about the past slavery actions of Muslims that once enslaved more than 1 million Caucasians in Europe and you will hear no talk of liberating the current slaves being held in the Middle East and Africa.

The UN is a bad joke and needs to be called out for what it is= a muslim run org that is forcing all western countries and Australia to take in muslim "refugees" so they can live and breed for free.

Can these muslim countries just keep their inbreed, sexual deviate, damaged brained, violent, low IQ populace within their own countries because no one else wants them. Stand up on your own 2 feet cowards.
