Longtime GOP Senator Reportedly Told Harry Reid He Was Going to ‘Kick the Crap Out’

Longtime GOP Senator Reportedly Told Harry Reid He Was Going to ‘Kick the Crap Out’ of Him Over ‘Nuclear Option’

Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) was apparently furious with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) decision in November to trigger the so-called “nuclear option,” a rules change that allows Congress to confirm most presidential nominees by a simple majority vote.
In fact, McCain was so infuriated with Reid that he reportedly told the Nevada senator he was going to “kick the crap out” of him, according to a New York Times Magazine article published Wednesday.

“John, I would expect nothing less,” Reid reportedly responded.

Soon after the alleged exchange, McCain took to the floor of the U.S. Senate to slam Reid, calling the “nuclear option” ordeal a “black chapter in history of the Senate.” The Arizona senator in his criticism of Reid made sure to bring up the fact that the Senate Majority Leader in 2008 was explicitly against efforts by Senate Republicans to “go nuclear.”

“Boy, this gives new meaning as to where you stand on an issue as opposed to where you sit,” he said.

The Filibuster Burns Like a Reichstag Fire in the U.S. Senate

    Dec. 2, 2013 10:34am

    George Jarksey

George Jarkesy, radio host of the nationally syndicated The George Jarkesy Show, frequent market commentator and guest on FOX Business News, FOX & Friends, and CNBC. . George started his career in the financial services industry with a New York Stock Exchange member. George has served on the Finance Committee of The Republican National Committee, and is currently an active member of the National Investment Banking Association, The Jarkesy Foundation, Helping A Hero, and Chairman of The National Eagles and Angels Association.

A Reichstag Fire has struck the U.S. Senate: Under the Democrats, it has been decided to basically end the filibuster. This is anti-democratic, and shows how today’s Democrats do not deserve to be called ‘democratic’ anymore. There is not an ounce of republicanism or American-style democracy within this recent maneuver. It is hypocritical-to-the-extreme to call them Democratic anymore.
By overturning the filibuster, which has been a fundamental piece of our democratic traditions and Senatorial landscape since the republic was founded, the progressives have shown how little they care for historical precedents. What they care about is their self-centered ends – the means has lost importance to these Enemies of Freedom, the new rising political class. It’s always power, power, and more power; they will say or do whatever they have to, and sell whatever apparently sacred principle or heritage they were passed down, for one thing: power.
Such desperate, wanton anti-democratic maneuverings bring to my mind Hitler’s 1933 Reichstag Fire. Under false pretenses, the Nazis burned down the Reichstag – or Germany’s version of the U.S. Congress. The Nazi propaganda blamed the inferno on three radical communists, but historians now know the Nazis themselves lit the Reichstag on fire, so Hitler could consolidate power.

Hitler did just that, shortly after, by promulgating the Reichstag Fire Decree. This decree suspended most of the checks and balances of the German Weimar republic. This was the inflection point, historians now say, when Germany really picked up the pace moving into Hitler’s unchallenged dictatorship.

Indeed, eliminating the famed and esteemed filibuster – which even the so-called Democratic Party supported en-masse for most of their history. The so called “rich” business owners and American savers will now have to fork over even more money to fund the Left’s political operations and expansion because of this travesty against our democracy.

The Leftists are now more powerful in America than ever before.
What the apparent pretext was for eliminating the filibuster was the refusal of Senate Republicans to confirm three judges to a U.S. Appeals Court. I’m sorry to my readers, but that strikes me as a pretty contrived pretext to eliminate a 200-year-plus, tried and true, democratic tradition.
This is a naked and ugly power grab; evil to its core!

What these propagandists fail to mention is the filibuster is protection for the slight minority.

What will pro-democracy activists do in America in response to this? It is likely they will try to rally many moderate Leftists to their cause. Could we see a Movement to Restore the Filibuster? I hope so; this may be the spark that gets even more Americans on-board with ideas like Mark Levin’s push to roll back the ‘Post-Constitutional Age in America‘.

Many democrats in the United States go on propaganda rampages declaring that the filibuster is an antiquated tradition, which is horribly abused now, and the Senate should be congratulated for obliterating this noble element of American republicanism. Yet, what these small minded propagandists fail to mention is the tradition of the filibuster has acted as a vital protection for the slight minority. By removing minority protections, we only hasten the inevitable day, when people in power after trampling the minority will then do the same to the majority.
I hate to be cliché but: Absolute Power, Corrupts Absolutely?
The truth is they don’t care that they are corrupt. These propagandists and their financial backers are in this for themselves, and themselves alone to secure their position in the new American Political Class. What enriches them is what counts. And boy is it profitable to support greater power for government, big corporations, big banks, big Hollywood studios, and big unions. If you play it well, and support the move, the power grab toward fascism/communism, you too, may get a seat over and above everyone else as an elite member of the new Political Class.

The larger cultural and democratic consequences are, disastrous. Freedom in America is DEAD, it lies in a coffin, and even though I hope and pray it can someday resurrect, this is another nail in American freedoms coffin.

What this small version of the Reichstag Fire will unleash is nothing but an uglier, more corrupt country. People want to say it will make America work better and the Senate will operate more smoothly – a latter-day version of Hitler’s ‘Making the Trains Run on Time’ – but I would prefer the trains run late and behind schedule if I have my freedoms and halt the takeover of state promoted socialism.

Senate Passes ‘Nuclear Option’ Fundamentally Changing Filibuster Power — but There Were Three Democrats Who Voted to Stop It

But not all Democrats were on board with the change.
Thursday’s vote marked a major shift in more than 200 years of Senate precedent that required a 60-vote majority to assure a final vote on most presidential nominees. The “nuclear option,” however, means only 51 votes are required to confirm most judicial and executive nominees.
Supreme Court appointees are still exempt form the rule change. Also, it’s important to note that this vote doesn’t block other filibusters like Kentucky Senator Rand Paul’s nearly 13-hour marathon speech against President Barack Obama’s drone program.
Thursday’s “nuclear option” vote only applies to most judicial and executive nominees.
“It shows you just how desperate and cynical Democrats have become,” one Senate Republican aide told TheBlaze. “They have proven willing to destroy a defining and historic aspect of the Senate in order to distract from their disastrous health care law and the harm it’s inflicting on the American people right now."

“Unfortunately, while their ploy may help them in the news cycle for a few days, Americans will still be suffering all the while,” the aide added.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) accused Republicans Thursday of “unbelievable, unprecedented obstruction” of the president’s selections for court vacancies and other offices.

“It’s time to change the Senate, before this institution becomes obsolete,” Reid said.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), for his part, accused Democrats of trying to distract from the ongoing disaster that has been the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, adding that Democrats would later come to regret the rule change.
“When Democrats were in the minority they argued strenuously for the very thing they now say we will have to do without, namely the right to extend a debate on lifetime appointments. In other words, they believe that one set of rules should apply to them and another set to everybody else,” he said.
McConnell reminded his colleagues Reid said in 2012 he wouldn’t try to change the process of approving appointees.

“He may as well just have said, ‘If you like the rules of the Senate, you can keep them,’” McConnell said, referring to the president’s oft-repeated promise that Americans could keep their insurance under Obamacare.

“Senator Reid is breaking over 100 years of years of precedence in order to get his way,” Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said in a statement. “Reid is a bully, dictating to the Senate.”

Democratic Sens. Mark Pryor (Ark.), Joe Manchin (W.V.) and Carl Levin (Mich.) voted “yea” with Republicans against the rule change.

“My judicial nominees have waited nearly two-and-a-half times longer to receive yes or no votes on the Senate floor than those of President Bush. The ones who do get a vote are generally confirmed with little or any dissent. This isn’t obstruction on substance on qualifications. It’s just to gum up the works,” President Obama said after the vote. “The vote today I think is an indication that a majority of senators believe as I believe that enough is enough. The American’s people’s business is far too important to keep falling prey day after day to partisan politics.”

“I’m a former senator. So is my vice president. We both value any Senate’s duty to advise and consent. It’s important and we take that very seriously. But a few now refuse to treat that duty of advise and consent with the respect that it deserves. It is no longer used in a responsible way to govern. It’s rather used as a reckless and relentless tool to grind all business to a halt. That’s not what our founders intended,” he added.
Here’s a breakdown of how the Senate voted:

    http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013...ibuster-power/

Prior to the vote, Heritage Action, a conservative political group, released the following statement: “For Harry Reid and President Obama, this is not about a couple circuit court judges; this is an attempt to remake America to reflect their unworkable and unpopular progressive vision. If Reid and his colleagues continue down this path, they will set a precedent that fundamentally alters the role of the minority in American politics.”
