Trump officials sound alarm on Russian meddling, vow to fight back: Democracy 'in the crosshairs'

Top Trump administration officials warned Thursday that Russia is posing a sustained threat to American elections with its influence operations, saying “democracy itself is in the crosshairs.”

Top national security and intelligence officials addressed the threat at the White House press briefing.

“We continue to see a pervasive messaging campaign by Russia to try to weaken and divide the United States,” Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said.

The briefing showed the administration renewing its public commitment to combating the Russian threat, just weeks after President Trump faced broad and bipartisan criticism for initially appearing to accept Russian President Vladimir Putin’s denial of meddling during their summit in Helsinki.

"A single attack can have widespread and cascading consequences... It's not just risk to prosperity, privacy, and infrastructure," Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said. "Our democracy itself is in the crosshairs."

Has she ever, just once, uttered those words about the invasion by the illegals?

What I find so hilarious about this whole Hate Russia Mania is that the people complaining about "discord" and "chaos" that threaten our "democracy" are the same ones who are sowing "discord" and "chaos" and actually threatening our "democracy". What ideas is Russia "sowing" in our country that is worse than what Maxine Waters is "sowing"? What Bernie Sanders and the Socialists are "sowing"? What the neo-cons are "sowing"? What the open borders traitors are "sowing"? What the globalist free trade traitors are "sowing"? Russia isn't responsible for any of this, they oppose free trade, open borders, war and are much more capitalistic today than ever before. Sure, they have "oligarchs", just like we do. That's a consequence of capitalism. Of course some of them have "links to the Kremlin", just like most of our "oligarchs" have some "link to DC".

Unemployment is at or under 4%, GDP growth is at 4.1%, wage growth just bumped to 2.8%, exports are up 50%, trade deficit down $52 billion, Dow Jones well over 25,000 and holding, Apple just broke $1 Trillion in market value, we have stability in Syria, peace talks in Afghanistan and a major peace negotiation underway with North Korea, we're the new number one producer of oil based energy, our coal industry is back, our steel and aluminum industries are coming back, so I mean if this is the "discord" and "chaos" Russia is "sowing" to "threaten our democracy", then well, gee, we might need to think twice about what is and is not and who is and is not a "threat" to our country.

Thousands of people attended two events in New York City last year organized on Facebook by a group the social media giant believes was working to sow discord the way Russian hackers did during the 2016 presidential election, according to a report.

The anti-Trump protests were held Sept. 9 in Columbus Circle, Aug. 17 in front of the Trump Tower.

A third took place Aug. 30 in Springfield, Mo., and all were set up at least in part by a group known as the Resisters, The Hill reported.

The rally at Columbus Circle was tied into a string of protests across the country arranged to oppose Trump’s decision to phase out protections for Dreamers, which shielded young people brought to the United States illegally by their parents from deportation.

It was part of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy.

The Post covered the demonstration that gathered across the street from the Trump International Hotel and Tower that involved protesters holding signs that read, “legalize liberty” and “keep the dreamers, deport the racists.”

They crowded the sidewalk along Central Park West from West 60th to West 62nd streets.

Thousands also showed up for a rally at the Trump Tower on 5th Avenue to “protest Trump and ideology of hate at Trump Tower.”

The third event in Missouri involved protesting Trump’s arrival for a speech there.

Facebook announced on Wednesday that it had detected a disinformation campaign on its platform that was spreading disinformation ahead of the midterm elections in November.

The tech firm said it had deleted 32 false pages and profiles created between March 2017 and May 2018.

Once in a blue moon they will throw out something about that, just to keep their base interested and hanging on, but usually it isn't even mentioned.
Their silence on the subject speaks volumes about where and what their real priorities are.
