Trump repeats misleading claim on Iran's military budget

Washington (CNN) President Donald Trump repeated a misleading claim about Iran's military budget Saturday, saying it had increased by more than 40 percent since the negotiation of the Iran nuclear deal.
"Iran's Military Budget is up more than 40% since the Obama negotiated Nuclear Deal was reached...just another indicator that it was all a big lie. But not anymore!," Trump tweeted.
The President made the same claim in announcing his decision to pull the United States out of the Iran nuclear agreement earlier this week -- an assertion that fact checkers have called "exaggerated" and lacking crucial context.
"In the years since the deal was reached, Iran's military budget has grown by almost 40 percent, while its economy is doing very badly," Trump said during the speech.
In a fact check of that remark, The New York Times deemed the claim "exaggerated." Citing data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the newspaper explained that Iranian military spending has increased by only about 30 percent from 2015, the year the Iran deal was reached, to last year.
The Washington Post also relied on data from the institute in looking into the President's claim and likewise reported an increase in Iranian military expenditures of "nearly 30 percent" from 2015 to last year.
The Post's analysis notes that "just looking at the raw increase or decrease in any country's military budget misses important context." Iranian military spending "increased alongside overall government spending — not in a silo on its own," the newspaper goes on to say, adding that "the nuclear accord has contributed to the overall increase in spending -- including the increase in military spending -- since it lifted sanctions and allowed for a rise in oil production and exports."

CNN, what are you doing? Are you trying to commit treason? Do you not think that the President knows how much Iran is spending on military? Do you think our CIA and Treasury Department and allies like Israel are so incompetent that they don't know to the penny what Iran is spending on its military? Trump is negotiating a new deal with Iran, why would you at CNN want to try to diminish that process?
You hate Trump more than you love our country, that's what's wrong here. You are so bad, so disgusting, so off the rails, that you've become an advocate for a nuclear bound terrorist sponsoring enemy of the United States just to discredit Trump because he won the election. You have zero credibility. Shameful.A Nation Without Borders Is Not A Nation - Ronald Reagan

Well, in this case, he isn't. And in most cases, he's not. There's been a couple of retweets that the media claimed were wrong and maybe they were, but Trump's stuff that comes from him and his own sources, it's all correct. The media uses this "fact-check" scam to try to run up how many times Trump "lied". Data has all types of different sources, methods and results. It can be spinned by a President to prove his points or the media can take a different spin and say it's a pinnochio. The data is still the same, it's just what conclusion you want to draw from it and honestly most Americans agree with Trump Spin, because his spin is the logical, normal way ordinary people would view it. The media is vile and completely out of touch with the American People. They're so sick they still don't understand why Trump won the election, and Russia had nothing to do with it.
