TAMPA - The first tropical depression of the season could be forming in the next few days.

Right now, the National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on a cluster of storms just south of the Dominican Republic that they have dubbed Invest 93L.

Forecasters expect the system to gain strength because it's heading for an area of warm water and low wind shear -- two key ingredients for tropical development.

"Given the atmospheric parameters ahead of it, 93L stands a very good chance of becoming a depression," offered FOX 13 meteorologist Dave Osterberg.

But computer models disagree on how strong the system will get. One of the more aggressive models brings the system into the Gulf and develops it into a major hurricane; another model keeps it as a fairly weak system.

If the system intensifies into a tropical storm, it would be named Alex.
