U.S. Customs & Protection agents seize over $600,000 value worth of heroin

22 pounds of heroin from Guatemala found on boat

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. —U.S. Customs & Protection agents seized over $600,000 value worth of drugs Tuesday.

U.S. Customs & Protection officers found a vessel coming from Guatemala loaded with 22 pounds of heroin at Port Everglades.

The estimated value of the seized narcotics is more than $600,000.

The contraband was given to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers for further investigation.

"The vigilance and dedication of CBP officers has helped us to successfully interdict a significant amount of dangerous narcotics from reaching South Florida communities," Port Everglades Port Director Jorge Roig said. "Close collaboration with our federal partners is essential and we will continue to refine and further enhance the effectiveness of our detection and interdiction capabilities."
