Henson Ong, the Connecticut resident and legal immigrant whose passionate defense of the Second Amendment drew applause at a legislative hearing this week, said his pro-gun ownership views were cemented after he and his family were the victims of violent crime in their native land.

Ong, of Waterbury, Conn., said he and his family immigrated to the U.S. from the Philippines 13 years ago. He declined to provide many personal details, including his age, but told TheBlaze in a telephone interview it was that crime that prompted their move to the U.S.

“As a personal victim of violent crime, I can say that appeasement to criminals and disarming the innocent is not the solution,” Ong told TheBlaze.

“If a violent criminal were to attack you and your family, the only answer, the only logical answer, is to defend oneself and eliminate the threat. That doesn’t necessarily mean killing, but it means stop the threat as quickly as possible.”

He added, “I do not want those rights, and the freedoms that come with the rights, eroded in my adopted country.”

I am glad to see this gentleman expressing his opinion but it really doesn’t matter.

We can have all the facts and history on our side but none of that matters any more.

You see, the liberals figured out that it was easier to import their voters than win them over with logic and arguments so thanks to the late Big Fat Teddy K. and LBJ the die was cast for the demographic shift in this country. If you want to see what this country will look like in another twenty years look to Detroit.

There could have been video of Obama clubbing a baby harp seal to death while giving unfiltered “Lucky's” to a grade school student and listening to “Dixie” on a radio and he would have still been elected. FACTS DON’T MATTER ANY MORE.

Sometimes when an alcoholic comes to in a puddle of his own vomit he realizes that there might be a problem in his life. I hope we don’t drown to death before regaining consciousness. Keep your friends close and hang on.

How many American youths who are products of our Socialist Indoctrination Centers ( Government Schools ) can articulate as clearly and accurately as this fine young man ? ALL of our youth should have this man’s knowledge and wisdom. Our tax dollars that are spent for Education are being wasted. Home school your children OR de-program them every day when they come home from Government School.

    Thank you Mister Ong.

If gun control actually did work, “Washington D.C. and Chicago” would be the safest two cities in the United States. these two cities they have the ” toughest gun back ground check laws “, but they have the highest gun crime activity and gun murder rates WHY ?

Last time I was in “Washington D.C.” standing at the Washington Monument gunshots just down the street, I looked at a Park police officer he looked at me just gangs shooting at each other don’t worry about it.

First time in “Chicago” visiting a friend in the hospital, at my motel hearing gunshots down the street, when I was going out to look around the city, I was warned to stay away from certain parts of the city, I would get robbed or shot by gangs. Hmmmmm
Law-abiding United States citizens, being denied gun ownership why?

Gang bangers and their “” Overlapping turf issues “”, in our biggest cities do gangs go through gun background checks ? NO!

I Was a Victim of Violent Crime: Immigrant Behind Viral Testimony Explains Why He’s Pro-Gun

Ong said he felt compelled to testify at the hearing amid nationwide calls for more gun control following the Newtown, Conn. elementary school massacre last month.

“What is the point of gun control? The common factor of all violence in society is the violent individual,” Ong said. “If the violent individual was not there you could have an arsenal and the arsenal would have harmed nobody.”

He said the Newtown tragedy has been hijacked by people driven by an agenda to restrict gun ownership.
“I believe much of this overreaction is illogical and irrational,” Ong said. “It is all emotion-based, and it is fanned by people who have an agenda, who have been waiting for an opportunity such as this.”

Ong said the enthusiastic response he got from the audience was an “encouraging” sign that “there is more support for freedom against the statist agenda of the current administration.”

“A disarmed population is subject to being victimized by their own government, and by those criminal elements who unfortunately as time goes on becomes part of the government, either directly or indirectly,” he said, referring to government corruption.

“If the population is disarmed, we are helpless. And if the Second Amendment rights are taken away, how long before the First Amendment rights are taken away? How do you enforce the taking away for the Second Amendment without violating the Fourth Amendment?” he asked. “This is a stand that must not fall.”

Legal Immigrant’s Must-Watch Testimony Against Gun Control: ‘Few Saw the Third Reich Coming Until It Was Too Late’

    Jan. 31, 2013 12:40am Jason Howerton

    UPDATE:

We tracked down Mr. Ong and he gave us an exclusive interview. See what became the tipping point for his support of the Second Amendment here.

Connecticut resident and legal immigrant Henson Ong (YouTube)

During a public hearing on gun violence in Hartford, Conn. on Monday, a legal immigrant by the name of Henson Ong issued a passionate defense of the Second Amendment and argued that gun control simply “does not work.” The video of Ong’s testimony has already surpassed 130,000 views on YouTube.

“Forgive me, English is not my first language. I am a legal immigrant and I am an American by choice,” he began, prompting applause from the audience.

“Thank you for giving me this opportunity to express my opinion and give my testimony in opposition to the majority of the proposed bills, which do nothing to deter future crimes,” he added. “Gun control doesn’t work.”

Ong then launched into a impassioned diatribe about what he considers to be the real problem fueling gun gun violence — “societal decay.”

“Your own history is replete with high school rifle teams, boy scout marksmanship merit badges,” he explained. “You could buy rifles at hardware stores, you could order them… your country was awash in readily available firearms and ammunition, and yet in your past you did not have mass school shootings*.”

“What changed?” he asked. “It was not that the availability of guns suddenly exploded or increased, it actually was decreased. What changed was societal decay,” he added, resulting in more applause.

Ong pointed to the Washington, D.C. and Chicago as two cities with some of the strictest gun laws but also “the highest crime and murder rates.”

“If gun control actually did work, Washington, D.C. and Chicago would be the safest cities in your nation. But [they are] not, they have the toughest gun laws and the highest crime and murder rates,” he said.

Ong also defended Americans’ right to own so-called “assault rifles,” which are really just semi-automatic rifles. Citing a recent purchase of 7,000 5.56x45mm NATO “personal defense weapons” by the Department of Homeland Security, he noted how the agency described the weapons as “suitable for personal defense use in close quarters.”

He went on: “Had the Koreans in the LA riots not had AR-15s and AK-47s with 30-round magazines — and Ruger 30s — their businesses would have burnt to the ground like all the other businesses in their neighborhoods. Theirs stood because they stood their ground.”

Driving a point home that many U.S. lawmakers don’t even seem to fully understand, the legal immigrant stated definitively that the Second Amendment’s purpose was not for hunting.

In closing, Ong quoted a famous statement by Judge Alex Kozinski in his dissent on the case of Silveira v. Lockye in 2002.
“My excellent colleagues have forgotten these bitter lessons of history. The prospect of tyranny may not grab the headlines the way vivid stories of gun crime usually do. But few saw the Third Reich coming until it was too late.

The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed only for those exceptionally rare circumstances when all other rights have failed. A free people can only afford to make this mistake once.”
Ong ended his testimony to applause from the audience.

    * In reality, school shooting deaths have actually experienced a steady decline between 1993 and 2010, studies show.
