Spring does not technically begin for at least another week, but summer-like weather is already headed to Los Angeles, with temperatures this weekend possibly beating 90 degrees in some areas.
The weekend heat wave prompted forecasters to issue a heat advisory, warning the public to take precautions.
After a relatively cool Thursday, with temperatures in the mid-60s to lower-70s, conditions are expected to start heating up, with highs on Saturday in the mid-80s in the valleys and from 75 to 80 degrees along the coasts.
The heat wave is expected to peak on Sunday, however, with daytime highs in the upper-80s to lower-90s in the valley areas, said meteorologist Scott Sukup of the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
"A lot of areas will be a good 15- to 20-degrees above normal," he said.
For example, in downtown L.A., Sunday's high is forecast to be 88 degrees, when the normal temperature would be closer to the low 70s.
In Woodland Hills, the temperature Sunday is expected to soar to 92 degrees, and many areas in the western part of the San Fernando Valley may experience similar heat, Sukup said.
Daytime highs on Sunday could also hit 89 degrees in Burbank and 89 at the Long Beach airport.

Weekend heat wave to bake county
SAN DIEGO — An upper level ridge of high pressure and a weak offshore flow will combine to bring unseasonably warm temperatures to San Diego County this weekend, with highs in the valleys topping out in the 90s by Sunday, meteorologists said Friday.
“The most noticeable warm up will occur from the mountains westward, where daily temperatures over the weekend will run 12 to 20 degrees above normal,” according to the National Weather Service.
Highs today are expected to range from 66 to 71 degrees in coastal areas, 73 to 78 in the valleys, 55 to 70 in the mountains, 71 to 74 in the high deserts and 85 to 87 in the low deserts.
On Saturday, the forecast calls for highs of 72 to 83 degrees in coastal areas, 80 to 88 in the valleys, 59 to 74 in the mountains, 75 to 78 in the high deserts and 87 to 89 in the low deserts.
By Sunday, it’ll be 78 to 86 degrees in coastal areas, 85 to 90 in the valleys, 61 to 79 in the mountains, 78 to 82 in the high deserts and 86 to 88 in the low deserts, the NWS said.
