Hillary Clinton has given up her security clearance in the wake of the scandal over her handling of secret information on her email server, the Senate Judiciary committee revealed Friday.
Chairman Charles E. Grassley also revealed top Clinton aide Cheryl Mills and four others no longer have clearance.
Mrs. Clinton’s clearance expired at the end of August. The others lost their access privileges in September.
The state department, in a letter to Mr. Grassley, had said Mrs. Clinton and her aids retained clearance in order to conduct research after she left office.
The names of the four additional aids besides Ms. Mills were redacted from the state department letter that the committee released.

Compared to the media conniption fits over revocation of John Brennan’s security clearance in August (Washington Post headline: “Trump revoked John Brennan’s security clearance. The long-term consequences may be dire”), Hillary Clinton’s defenestration from the House of National Security is being portrayed as a “voluntary” matter. CBS News, for instance, headlines, “Hillary Clinton’s security clearance revoked by her own request,” as if she woke up one day and decided she could no longer stand the stress of reading about our national secrets. Quite obviously, she surrendered the clearance to avoid the embarrassment of having it taken away, much the way Paul Manafort surrendered himself to authorities to begin his imprisonment to avoid a humiliating police raid or manhunt.

The only reason the public even found out about Hillary’s humiliation is that Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley released a September 23rd letter from the Department of State that informed him of the revocation/surrender. Read the letter here. DOS did not want the information released at all. The penultimate paragraph of the letter reads:

In accord with the letter’s request, Grassley submitted the letter for clearance, and State blacked out the names of four individuals, presumably Hillary aides, who lost their clearances, in addition to Cheryl Mills, whom the State Department allowed to be named.

Given the history of redactions done to prevent official embarrassment instead of protecting national security, these redactions need to be probed.

State Department revokes Hillary Clinton's security clearance at her request

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's security clearance has been revoked at her request, the State Department told lawmakers, according to a letter made public Friday.

Clinton's clearance was withdrawn on Aug. 30, according to a letter from the State Department to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), which he released.
Five others associated with Clinton, including longtime aide Cheryl Mills, also had their clearances revoked on Sept. 20, according to the letter. The aides were known as "research assistants," which allowed them to keep their clearances after their time at the department concluded.
The move comes almost a year after Grassley asked the department to investigate and review whether Clinton's aides still had security clearance.
Clinton in 2016 was investigated for her use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state. No charges were filed against Clinton, who was running for president at the time of the probe.
This summer, President Donald Trump revoked former CIA Director John Brennan's security clearance, and the White House has said he is reviewing several other clearances of former top officials. Clinton's name was not on the list of those said to be under review.
