This hearing is to examine the direct and indirect costs to the Federal Government of federal ownership and management of lands.

The three main objectives include:
1. to examine what the costs and benefits are of the federal government managing federal lands.
2. to explore whether states and local communities could be better positioned to steward these lands.
3. to examine the impediments federal ownership and management of lands pose to local economies.
