Man Forced to Take COVID Shot to Receive Lung Transplant Dies After Second Dose


A 49-year-old Texas man who was required to be fully vaccinated against COVID before being approved for a life-saving lung transplant died of a pulmonary embolism and heart issues that he developed after his second Moderna shot.

In an exclusive interview with The Defender, the man’s wife, Amy Bolin, said that her deceased husband, Bobby Bolin, had to be fully vaccinated against COVID — even though he’d already had the virus and recovered — in order to receive the transplant.

“In the medical field, your goal is supposed to be to improve and save people’s lives, and instead you’re giving them one option — you either do this or you can’t get a life-saving transplant,” Amy said.

Amy said her husband had no choice. “He knew that without lungs he was not going to live because his lungs were failing him. But look at what happened by making that choice.”

The woman said she pushed “back pretty hard with the transplant team” when they told the family Bobby would need to be fully vaccinated against COVID despite him already recovering from the disease. Bobby was not even tested for antibodies, his wife said.

She explained her opposition to her husband taking the vaccine due to his severely immunocompromised state. “He even struggled to take the flu shot, and we even fought the team about that because he would end up in the ICU every time it was given to him,” Amy shared.

Still, the doctors insisted on the vaccination being a prerequisite to the lung transplant surgery, and since Bolin was “desperate” and “very sick,” he gave up and took the shot. His wife recalled,

“The thought of taking this vaccine or not having the opportunity to have a chance at living was not something that he was willing to gamble with, so he agreed to take it.” And that is when he was finally put on a transplant waiting list.

After taking the first dose of the Moderna jab on March 20, Bolin experienced no significant side effects besides “typical achiness and feeling a little run-down.” Given the man was not feeling well generally, at that time it was hard to tell whether those symptoms were due to the vaccine or were simply a part of his health condition.

After Bolin got his second dose, he and Amy went on a three-day trip to Jamaica to get some “us-time” before the upcoming surgery.

On the flight back home, Bolin’s oxygen level started dropping rapidly, but medics that were traveling on the same plane were able to save his life. Bolin was given pure oxygen.

After an emergency landing, Bolin was evaluated by EMTs and, since he was feeling fine, he decided against going to a local hospital.

A couple of days later, however, Amy started noticing her husband’s “cognitive awareness had been impacted and he just wasn’t himself,” so he went to the hospital. He was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism that he developed on the plane. Pulmonary embolism is often a life-threatening blockage in one of the pulmonary arteries in the lungs. In most cases, pulmonary embolism is caused by blood clots that travel to the lungs from deep veins in the legs or, rarely, from veins in other parts of the body (deep-vein thrombosis), per Mayo Clinic.

Another diagnosis given to Bolin was atrial fibrillation, which is an irregular and often very rapid heart rhythm (arrhythmia) that can lead to blood clots in the heart. Amy said,

This is a man who multiple times a year was in the hospital being observed for his lung condition and never, never ever, had they ever identified any rhythmic issues with his heart until this occurrence happens.

When Amy inquired if the conditions could be connected to the COVID vaccine, the doctors promptly ruled that out while providing no explanation for Bolin’s symptoms.

Amy said her husband was in the hospital for 22 days before he died.

The Defender noted that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its guidance recommending immunocompromised adults receive a fourth dose of the Pfizer-or Moderna COVID shots six months after receiving their third dose — “as research shows people with compromised immune systems don’t mount an adequate immune response following vaccination.” That practice, however, has neither been studied for safety or efficacy nor approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the CDC’s vaccine safety advisers.

Bobby Bolin is not the first victim of a pulmonary embolism developed due to the “safe and effective” COVID vaccine.

As The New American reported in June, an unnamed 65-year-old died of so-called vaccine-induced thrombosis and thrombocytopenia (VITT), or thrombocytopenia with thrombosis syndrome (TTS), 10 days after receiving his second Moderna jab. That was the first officially confirmed case of blood clotting linked to a vaccine based on mRNA technology, per Annals of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Peter McCullough, a world-renowned cardiologist, explained that due to the widespread memory-type antibody response to SARS-CoV-2, the antibodies induced by the COVID-19 vaccines can bring about the destruction of any cell that manufactures the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, particularly in circulation.

“With repeated doses of the COVID-19 vaccines, the spike protein will progressively accumulate in the brain, heart and other vital organs exceeding the rate of clearance. The spike protein is well known to cause disease, such as myocarditis and neurologic damage as well as injuring blood vessels and promoting blood clotting,” warned McCullough.
